Right, I know this has been asked before, and there are plenty of posts about cutting your current cradle mount to fit, what versions might fit, and whether you need a 'media' version or not, but haven't seen any actual part numbers or installation pictures showing what the OEM solution is.

Does anyone have the two part numbers I'll need in order to ensure I get the correct cradle and eject box for my e86?

Realoem suggests:
  • 84212199389 for the iPhone 4s cradle
  • 84212222122 for the eject box

Thanks

They're the right numbers.

I've picked up the snap-in but deciding what to do regariding an eject box, as I'd be planning to mod it to connect to an Intravee. As I've been looking, the best price for the snap in was £65 new and delivered from Scotthall Watford on eBay (item 170799668378). The same dealer does both the eject box and snap in for £140 (item 170733770533 - says X3 but covers the E85/E86 as well).

I did manage to pick up a new unused snap in from eBay for a bit less but they nearly all seem to get bid up to £50 to £65 so you might as well buy new from the dealer.

A couple of German suppliers do the eject box a bit cheaper. Both http://www.kfzteile-profis.de and http://www.baum-bmwshop24.de do it for under €70, but shipping to the UK is €17, making it about £73. They do other BMW parts too so it's probably most worthwhile if combining the order with a few other bits that stay within the weight limit.

Thank.

I've ordered the eject box from BMW Direct on eBay, and have a bid in for a cradle. If I don't win it then I'll just buy it from BMW Direct too.

AAARRRRGGGHHHHH :headbang:

Why didn't I read up on this before buying the parts.

Had a couple of hours spare today after watching Liverpool lose, so thought I'd install the eject box & cradle for my iPhone.

Thought it was going to be a relatively easy unclipping of a eject box and phone cradle. It was only when I opened the package with the eject box in did I realise that there was a foot long cable attached. No problem I thought, I'll just unclip it off this eject box and plug it into the one already in the car.

Well you probably know that it's not that simple and you'd have to remove half the trim to get to where the cable is plugged in. Checked on TIS and found confusing info (for the e85 only) that says something about removing the speaker covers, removing the door using a piece of wire to support it when removing it, then you have to remove the 'frame' somehow - and all the while I'm worried about the sat-nav DVD unit and cd-changer that is also sitting in the storage compartment.

Gave up after an hour, and think I will simply buy an dash-mounted cradle to charge it - or just keep it in my pocket when I don't need to charge it.

Although I might get the Dremmel out and see if I can remove the sides of the current eject box to make the iPhone cradle fit.

I have taken that panel apart a few times now but can't ever remember seeing where the other side from the cale goes though. A foot is not very long though.

Further investigation, and scraped knuckles, shows me that there'll be a lot to remove to get access to it. Don't know if I can get to it from the boot rather than the cabin.

I've also just disassembled the original eject box to see how/where to Dremmel it, and was about to do so until I realised there'd be no 'pop-up' catch to keep the cradle in, as the one for the iPhone is at the front of the housing and the original one is at the rear.

However, I've also seen where the 'cable' connects to inside the eject box, and I might have a go tomorrow to see if I can disconnect the PCB that's in the OEM eject box and transfer it to the new eject box - thus swapping it over without having to trace the cable into the storage compartment.

Need to buy some longer star/hex/posi-drive bits/screwdrivers though to make disassembly easier next time.

I think this is one instance where being able to take the roof off might help :P

Just in case anyone wants the instructions I found for removal of the storage compartment/door/speakers, they're here.

This would explain the labour cost when the Dealer updated mine in 2010 in F/L Roadster :o
