iPhone 4 snap in adaptor

Any got experience of the USB version. It looks a useful piece of kit but expensive at around £130 to basically allow you to charge the phone and get possibly better reception.

Plus the hassle of having to plug it in etc. You can obviously get chargers for cheaper, so I guess the main advantage is the reception...if it does actually improve it by a considerable amount, i.e. the difference between making a call or not etc.

I bought one. Cost £80 as I recall from my dealer with a little discount.

Useful to charge the phone on longer journeys and it improved signal notably in remote or built up areas.

Do you still need to use Bluetooth or just plug it in? If I didnt have to enable bluetooth (pita on the iPhone) then that would be also be handy.

It still uses Bluetooth. The adaptor is just for charging and signal boost. I have bluetooth enabled all the time on the phone.

Hi Guys. I think the snap in adaptor is more than just a charger or aide to signal strength. BMW are working on a lot of stuff with their ConnectedDrive software and the snap in connectors are integral to that. I am aware that there are at least two adapters available, one is "standard" and the other deals with Media. I have the second more expensive adaptor which allows me to play my iPhone music through iDrive and link to other iPhone content through BMW Apps. There's quite a lot to it!

Hi Peter, as well as paying top dollar for the adaptor you also need the Apps extra software installed, about £200 on the options list, not sure how much to retro fit. For my own use the only benefit would be to be able to control the Internet radio on my iphone via the idrive rather than the phone itself and better menu for the phones music and podcasts. Yes I'd get a better signal but it's easier to charge the phone via a USB lead in the armrest than have to take it out of its case to plug into the adaptor.
I don't have the Apps option fitted, so may find out how much I'd get fleeced for this rather than also £130 for a bit of plastic.
Afaik you don't need the adaptor to get the full use of connected drive if you use a USB lead. Am I correct?
