iPhone 4 and snap in cradle

Be aware the iphone 4 does not appear to fit or at least I cannot make it connect to the 20 pin connector .......shouldn't really be surprised

Is it possible to mod the cradle slightly to get the phone to fit? I've got mine on order and was told by an iPhone engineer that the dock connector is the same on the 4 as it was on the 3GS. I was thinking the dremel tool could be used to slightly modify the cradle for the new phone.

Plug and socket are certainly the same its the angle of the cradle plug that seems to give the problem .
If you can work out where to ease it please post

Yeah that really sucks. Then again, as you should, not surprised since they completely redesigned the 4 as far as shape and stuff goes. I like the dremel mod idea, though. Sounds like a bit of a project, but it would be worth it if you didn't have to spend the extra $50 for a new cradle, etc. If anyone does it, let us know.

I have found a dock cable extender on Amazon $19.00 US and it will let me plug the phone into the cradle and put the phone into the oddments console. It should provide all functionality from the car to the phone.

Now there's a good idea! Another idea I had while thinking about it was finding a really universal dock and custom mounting it in the car, but I am not sure I could find one that would be inexpensive enough to make it worth my while if it will take that amount of time, though. At any rate, I like your idea with the extension cable.

Correct for the Z4, however other BMW models do offer that functionality.

Happy to report that the dock extension came today and it plugged into the dock connector in the snap in cradle and works perfectly with the iPhone. I have the 3GS now, but the 4 will be here next Thursday and the dock connections are the same. Saved myself $150.000 US with a $19.00 cable.
