iphone 11 Syncing Phone Contacts

Hi Guys

Picked up car today (Z4 E89 2015 none iDrive) and as we all do is fiddle so I have been trying to Sync my iphone 11 phone contacts to the entertainment system but failing for some reason doesnt seem to want to sync my contacts.

I have tried the obvious turn the bluetooth on/off turning the sync on/off bit it makes no odds, the unit does see the iphone but when I go into the voice control to ask her/hin to call *** it says the phone book is empty??

So the question is am I missing something even though reading the hand book it hasnt helped so I need help from you experts.

Thanks in advance

Hey what you showed is already known to many of us. What we want to know as to how to get it synced. My contacts are not getting synced at all. I get a blank list. What should be done.
Please advise.

Very basic stuff - but have you got the bluetooth link set up right on your phone?

On you riphone, go to bluetooth settings, click the 'i' to the right of where it shows your BMW1234 connection.

Make sure it is allowed to sync contacts.

Then go to the car - delete (forget) the iphone, then re-pair it.

Hi Again
Just been out and re did the operation and still the same I can see the unit has stored the phonebook as per my phone but asking the car to dial/call a name from the phone book it is telling me my phone book is empty.
The last page of the manual (Page 146) references manually entering seperate voice phone book this was also the case in a seat cupra I had which was a 09 plate but I would have thought with tec moving on I should be able to access the phones phone book through the cars bluetooth system.
The car I have now is a 15 plate.

Ah well new voice phone book will have to be set up.

I think the non-idrive spec cars started out in 2009, so your probably spot on with your assessment.

The tech is better on idrive equipped models, but not exactly up-to-date as you might expect.

My 2016 idrive car need an MMI box with apple carplay to feel like it is from this century :)

What year is the iPhone 11 from?

Yes to use Voice to dial a number it has to be entered manually.
BMW stopped supporting these cars for the entertainment systems, both iDrive and non-iDrive, in 2012 when they moved the 3 series onto the F series and the NBT iDrive as all cars were supplied with iDrive. So the E89 was left with the outdated CIC for iDrive and the old standard radio. So it is an old system, 11 years at best.

From my owners manual I have on my phone (app called BMW Drivers Guide on Apple send Android)....
