iPhone 11 - pairing

I changed from an iPhone6s+ to an iPhone 12Pro Max recently.
The phone paired without a hitch in my 335 but when I came to pair in the 35is (sept 2016) what a cow of a job I had!

I deleted the old phone from the system then went to add new device.
The car screen went to add pass key but the phone showed nothing but the cars device name but the phone would advance to the stage to get the code - I tried to do it time and time but it just didn’t play ball. I even resorted to reading the book. That was no help!

Then it suddenly worked! I just don’t understand why ?
The car was in the garage (wintered) on a maintenance charger.

I’m confused

iPhone 12 :o , wow that really is early access

Ooops!
Typo - iPhone 11
It was still a cow tho! That daisy wheel on the device just kept spinning and would not get to the pass key page.

Different version of Bluetooth, 4.2 vs 5 , backwards compatibility is often a bit tricky, so it’s not surprising that it glitches..

It’s linked now so the problem is over - however I would like to know how/why it suddenly connected.

Definition of glitch
1a : a usually minor malfunction
a glitch in a spacecraft's fuel cell
also : BUG entry 1 sense 2
b : a minor problem that causes a temporary setback

That’s why I said glitch...no one usually knows why...the good news is that there is an ever increasing probability of these as newer devices come out as the bmw s/w was last updated in around 2015...
