Ipad Mini Install (Finished! With Pics)

i couldnt do without the center vents, on a cold ish day with the top down they are very much needed. the side ones and heated seat will not be enough when the top is down and its sub 5C IMHO

if you're going to the hassle of ordering and cutting up a dash and making custom fiber glass is there no way you can incoporate a new set of vents?
Have you got the oem nav and screen?

Hi

I'm starting to agree with centre vents! I'm not sure how to work it! Possibility of two round vents on either side of the screen.... Nectar few weeks will be trial and error!

Don't have the pop up nav or screen, never been a fan of it!

The whole issue with why I've not shoehorned my ipad into my dash is the centre vents!

Aside from that, what are you doing in the way of audio out from the ipad?

Hi.

As you know there are a couple of options. Bluetooth Module £20-40ish. Separate head unit as an audio carrier only etc. I am tempted by this:

http://www.audison.eu/index.php?page=product&id=49

They have just done an a lovely bit of kit which is an amplifier (8.1) but with the added bonus of their award winning bit one processor which cleans up source no end! it is expensive at £700!

My first bit at present is how the ipad will fit and in what location if I leave vents! There are so many things to consider! I would also like a reverse and forward camera + monitor flush mounted but I don't want the Zed to look like the starship enterprise!!!!

The panel has arrived today (Yeah) so the games will begin this weekend!

Well been to the shop this morning, coffee and thinking cap both present. We toyed with lots of options such as I-pad and I-phone holder, even measured up a 5" reverse camera with twin input for front and rear camera and then both agreed, I-Pad smack centre and loose the centre vents would look spot on. Simple and flush!

So for now the games begin and pics to follow. Clean dash with only a mini I-ipad flush fitted............

Now I know many will say the vents are a must for the cold nights, but this will be rev 1... if it works and look good and is functional. rev 2/3 etc. may follow!

If you are going to use an iPad mini, then may I suggest getting a float mount kit from soundman and just fibreglass that into your spare dash piece? Should look nice and neat that way.

I'm doing something similar but using my nexus 7 so I don't have to use iPad because those things drive me insane!

Hi mate! The price of those is scary! I've already got a fibreglass padded template with magnets etc so should be all good. Nexus was my 2nd option great tablet.

If I'm honest if I didn't have so many I products I would have gone android for the car!! I miss being able to pull out a 64gb sd, stick it in the computer and rip my albums.....

Now it's iTunes, crash, dammm I just wiped my last play list lol

I have done away with my centre vents when I installed the double DIN, been 2 years now and I don't miss them.

Looking forward to seeing the finished article

The audison bit series of processors are fantastic (Completely unbiased there even if I have a 10d myself :P )

:P

You may want to run an apple airport express offering you all the benefits of bluetooth (wireless streaming) but with better quality through Airplay!

As stlymch has said, speak to Doug about getting their float mount kit, it'll save a lot of the hard work!

Hi

As a Newbie to the Z4 world I do know this is a Marmite subject but I love tablets in cars. My opinion is I can hold my music, files, internet, navigation etc all in one place. I have had installs completed in the past and was thinking as a new Z4 owner of doing another install! The fact that you can pick up amazing tablets for under £200, including the nexus 7 1 and 2 and even an ipad mini (32gb) can be had for this money is great.

What I would like to know is how many people would actually be interest in a pre-fabricated panel kit for a double din or ipad mini similar to this nice bit of work:

http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=34096

Irespective of people genuine interest, Im going to get this done for me with an ipad mini template but if others are interested and the products good enough what do you guys/gals think?

:D :D :D

R3AP4R Didn't you do this on the TT forum aswell, I've just moved from over there too :)

Yes mate! how you doing? I was so close to another TT but fell in love with the Zeds! should have an update soon. The Zed is better for a template if you can live without vents in the centre dash :) . So you left the TT behind?

Here is another way to mount an Ipad, and Iphone. I run the Dashcmd app on my ipad, and listen to audiobooks on my phone while driving. this set up is cheap and gets the job done.

I added a bluetooth Fm transmitter tucked up under the passenger dash.
