IP security camera recommendations

With seemingly a huge choice of mostly no-name cameras' on Amazon & elsewhere I was wondering if anyone could recommend from experience a reasonably priced (sub £70 ideally) domestic type IP security camera.

I really just want to have a camera for looking over the cars in the garage & for making sure the electric garage door is free from obstructions before doing a remote shut.

Ideally I'd like it to have the following features:-

---Ethernet connected as I can run a cable to where I want the camera so would prefer a cabled one rather than Wi-Fi only version.
---Powered by PoE rather than having to faff about trying to get a separate 5v feed to it.
---Record to an onboard micro SD or similar (or record to a NAS or free cloud service?).
---Email a screenshot when movement detected. (or...)
---Email a short video when movement detected.
---Reasonable quality in both day & night modes.
---Doesn't need to pan, tilt or zoom.
---Doesn't need to be a weatherproof device.
---No monthly cloud based fees.
---Ability to view securely via smartphone/tablet app (preferably iOS) & via a secure web access from a PC.

This is my first dabble into IP security cameras - any advise appreciated.

I have the Motorola Hubble Focus 85 in my garage, from Costco, sub £50 with the VAT. can't remember if it has a micro SD slot, but it does have cloud based storage and movement detection, as well as ethernet/wifi. Needs a 5v supply though, although you could use a POE adaptor at the camera end? It also has decent IR illumination and 2 way sound.

The android app is very good, and allows you to pan/tilt the camera and use digital zoom.

Bit more expensive in Argos: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produ...aOXiK8quKhYBQN_FsOuW0wJjg1RMs94bGfRoCQzLw_wcB

Gets a recommend from me.

Hi Mike, thanks for your suggestion, that camera had caught my eye but if it uses the same app &iCloud storage as the cheaper version uses (the Motorola 66 I think) didn't that service come in for some stick when they introduced fees for a service that was previously free?, it was something to do with a motion detected video feed vs a still image IIRC.

Had the house wired up by a local firm a few years ago. 6 Sony cameras with night vision cabled with coax and power lines to a safe location in the house where the recording box provides a 500GB HDD for 2 weeks continuous recording, a USB port for extract output and a wired Ethernet connection for app support internally and externally with a dynamic IP.

just watch the motorola ones as you have to pay for a monthly subscription at Hubble if you want to record the video - i.e. when the camera has detected something when you are away - you can view the camera live free - but.....

I have both the Motorola and wtachbot - the watchbot HD is a much better system but does cost more - does have remote movement control etc - can get them for about 80 GBP - records onto a micro sd card or onto your phone/pc plus alerts etc - inbuilt ir light for night viewing

I have a Swann cloud camera looking out over the drive/garage. I use it wirelessly but it can be hard wired. I can login to my Swann account from anywhere to see a live view and recorded alerts. Free cloud system, there is an advanced account where a monthly fee is charged for extra features but I haven't found the need to do this.

It was a bit of a faff to set up but works fine now. Cost about £80 from Maplins.

I've picked up the Motorola Focus 85 from B&Q today, they pricematched Argos & took 10% off so that made it £63, the Focus 85 does do PTZ, I'm not going to open it until I've worked out how important being not being able to review archived video via Hubble without a subscription will be to me.

I'm going to read up in the instructions (available as a pdf online) & If I can record to the onboard Micro SD then I think I might take a punt & see how it works out.

Right, my bad, the Focus 85 is going back unopened, I've just worked out that it has neither an ethernet socket or micro sd slot, should have read the pdf before purchase :headbang:

Not a fan of the hubble Motorola app, quality isn't great and there's a delay as the signal is sent to a Motorola and back to your device.

I have a Tenvis Iprobot3 which is a great little camera. It does everything you want and more apart from the poe.

Thank-you sir, I think this could well suit my needs, I can get around the lack of PoE.

Ubiquiti kit is great - not the cheapest, but good value for what you get. I haven't tried their cameras but hopefully they're as good as their other products

Looks like nice kit but a bit professional for what I want which is a new toy to play with (I like gadgets), I've taken back the Motorola Focus 85 & just ordered the Tenvis Iprobot3, looks a nice bit of kit for a shade over £50.

I'll let you know what I think of it.

looks good

I have HD Dahua PoE cams and NVR. Easy to set up, superb image quality. NVR records everything plus streams live to my phone. Bought everything from ebay, NVR from Italy and cameras from China.

Probably more expensive than you want but this setup was recommended to me:

Sighthound labs software (which I think is free to try)
Lilin LR7022 cameras.

I've not invested so interested in other people's results
