invicta watches! what's the deal? who wears them? have you heard of them? what do you think????

If a watch isn't advertised in the BMW magazine, I don't buy one. Other than that, I know nothing about Invicta watches.

I'm a watch guy so I'll chime in.....

Don't listen to the TV hype and don't expect heirloom quality. However for a very small outlay of cash you can get a functional watch from what I've seen (I'm talking about mechanicals here - no idea about their quartz).

Some are hit and miss with quality problems, so if you buy one make sure you can either take the hit on it or be able to return it. Personally most are not my style as they are patterned after other brands - lots of Rolex designs used for instance (not that I would want a Rolex either). Movement (the works inside) origin is dubious. Some are Swiss ETA movements but also some Asian (i.e. Chinese) mixed in....I would avoid the Asian versions if I were you.

For me I would save a bit more and get something from an established brand - a used Omega is a good value for instance if you like the looks. If I knew what style of watch you want I could probably offer more advice. Everything I make is hand wound using Swiss movements (yep run a little business on the side making/selling watches).

Anyway hope this helps.

WLH, might I suggest a Coleman Digital, $8, Target. Works great, lasts long time, even has velcro on the wristband!!! 8)

Features include:
Illuminated Digital Readout
2 Alarms
2 Time Displays (very convenient if you travel across time zones often)
2 Countdown Timers
Stopwatch
Backlight (keeps the misquito's away in the woods)

:D

I'll chime in and say Relic for a not too expensive yet dressy type of watch. They run about as much as Fossils

*edit* had to change wording

Rama - what's your take on Rolex and why don't you want one? Just curious, I was thinking of getting one for my wife for our 10th anniversary.

There's nothing inherently wrong with Rolex watches - in fact I had one for a couple of years. They are solid and quite reliable, but IMO are very expensive for what you get. There are a lot of watches out there that are just as reliable, just as rugged, but a lot less money. Of course they don't have recognition among the general public that Rolex brings, but for me that is a good thing.

I have a few watches (okay maybe more than a few :) ) and on occasion I get compliments on them from people who have no idea what they are. The only statements ever made to me while wearing my Rolex was in the form of a question...."Is that real?"

:headbang: :headbang:

I buy watches for my own enjoyment and to be honest I found that when you wear a Rolex certain assumptions are made about you and people think you are trying to make a statement of some sort (and generally not a good one). There is a stigma attached to the brand and I found it interfered with my enjoyment of it, so I traded it on a Blancpain (a brand most people would never recognise).

I tend to favour watches made by smaller brands that are more exclusive (i.e. small in production numbers). Rolex makes around 1 million watches a year so lots of "crowns" for lots of "achievements."

Other things bother me as well in their marketing - for instance they advertise that they take a year to make which is quite frankly complete BS.

Anyway, my take on it.

Cheers, Al

I have a Rolex and it's a nice watch, but not even my favorite in my own limited collection. From my experience and from what I've heard from others, they don't keep very good time. Mine has been off as much as 3-5 minutes a month. My favorite "bargain" watch is my Oris.
