Howdy,

I've joined up to get some info on the Z4 and Z4M Coupe, I'm currently running a E92 MSport Coupe running on the fuel of the devil and an Alfa 147 GTA, after quite a few recent failures on the GTA I'm seriously thinking of moving on and the Z4 Coupe is on my list as potential replacements.

I've heard the M has a harsh suspension so this may not be the one to go for as the roads where I live are dire, I really like the way my M-Sport Coupe handles just wish it had the power of the GTA and now you know why I'm here.

Also wondered what the local 'scene' is like, I've been an active member of various car clubs and would like to continue this social side of ownership with the Zee.

I'm from Halifax in West Yorkshire so any local members who want to wave at a Pearl White 147 GTA buzzing around Calderdale go for it I might even wave back.

:D

As an initial matter of interest, what engine`s in your E92; and is it petrol, or the deadly-derv ?

It's the 2.0 diseasel just short of 180 bhp but masses of torque, its an auto too so perfect for cruising around in, went for the fuel of the devil as wifey does about 20K a year in it or did until she started commuting to london on the train, most of the time I drive it on my daily slog and really do prefer the ride and handling to my GTA which over the years i've managed to turn into a decent track day weapon but its awful on our really bad rutted potholey roads round here :(

I went to look at a 3.0 sport and an Z4M today at a local dealer and have a test drive booked on the 3.0 for the 18th, I don't think i'd get the M into my car park at home which has a steep off camber cobbled ramp :( having been in one now and tried to get out with the door partially open (I have a parking space next to a wall) I'm wondering if a Z is such a good idea from a practicality perspective of actually being able to get out of it when I park up at home.

The test drive will be the proof, car I'm testing is carbon black on black with sports seats, bluetooth prep, satnav and steering wheel paddles shift. It really does feel like a nice cossetted cabin and the driving position was spot on but one thing I was surprised at was the quality of internal plastics, especially behind the seats and on the transmission tunnel, its flimsy and hollow sounding which for me just says 'cost cutting' :(

My E92s interior plastics seem much more substanial and quite a lot of it is moulded rubber rather than plastic. I've driven a final gen 350z which was fun and although all the reviews say the plastics are poor i'd say they are comparable with the Z4s.

We'll have to see how the test drive goes :)

Thanks to everyone else for the greets :D

If ur test driving the 3lt never do the M or else u would end up like me- nearly 2 yrs of smiles and constant grin on the face while driving.

Right then Ghosty.........couple of thing for you to chew over here mate, if I may......

I`ve very recently had the loan of a 320d M-Sport, overnight, (whilst mine was in for a wheel-refurb), and I have to be really honest here and tell you that if you pick up a Zed with the dreaded runflats on, the ride will feel horrendous compared to the 320; certainly over rough-roads in any case. It really is like night and day. Now how it feels in comparison to the GTA, obviously I don`t know.........? The good news is that you can always ditch the runflats.........

I notice that you mention torque in the 320, and yes, it certainly had quite a bit when flooring it, EXCEPT, funnily enough, in 6th on the motorway, or so it seemed to me ? My 3.0si Sport will honestly kill it in 6th, which was something that REALLY surprised me when I drove the 320 ?

I see that you also mention a possible difficulty in getting out of the Zed once it`s parked up ? I can maybe help with this and suggest that, here and there, it assists if you drop down the driver`s window before getting out, as it really allows you to ease out of the car much better, and then when you lock the car (not teaching you to suck eggs here mate) just keep your finger pressed on the lock button, and the window will raise again. Only takes a couple of extra seconds......
I know about this, by the way, as we have a double-garage, and sometimes the wife parks her Qashqai a bit too far over onto my side, so I find I can whizz out of the car with the window down.

Perhaps the best indicator that I can give as to whether I feel you should change, or not, is to mention that I, too, came into my Coupe straight from an Alfa GT 3.2V6, and honestly mate............I just LOVE this thing; it really flies, and handles like a dream, and feels like a proper sports-car should; to me anyway !!

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Hi encee,

Thanks for posting, our e92 has runflats on it so if you were to compare a Z without to an E92 with how would you say they fare?

I do the windows down thing with the coupe as it does make getting in and out much easier, also the double blip of the keyfob to automatically ope the windows half way when opening the door helps tonnes.

I was also thinking I could set one of the seat memory options with the seat a bit higher and much further back to allow much easier access, I'm never really in that much of a rush to get in our out so that could work for me.

We'll have to wait and see how the test drive goes.

Nice to see other members with an Alfisti history here :D

Yes Sean, I would imagine that a Zed without runflats would compare quite evenly with a 320 with runflats.

As regards the Alfa, I thoroughly enjoyed the drive mate, (especially the V6 soundtrack 8) ), but I absolutely WORSHIP pretty much everything about my Zed; it really is special !

I have memory 3 set to all the way back and down... and my key set to this when the car is unlocked.

So whenever i open my door the seat goes right back to aid getting in without scruffing the bolsters... i then press memoy 1 to put the seat into my driving position.
