Is there an updated supported devices list? I'm toying with the idea of dropping the KCA-420i and fitting a USB interface and putting an SSD into the car. I don't want to lost the Intravee though!

Think you would need to find a Alpine unit.

This enable you to attach another device along side the 420i

I think the Intravee bridge has a similar function.

The KCA-420 and that whole family is beginning to get a bit long in the tooth. It can't deal with massive music collections. The Alpine USB unit can deal with twice the volume capability but it has a long bug list.

I find scrolling through my music can be a little frustrating especially when it doesn't display the full album title. Is this the intravee or the alpine component?

I never really did understand the differences between the two other than the intravee does the iPhone the alpine connects the intravee to the canbus

It's the Alpine component. It has a limitation on the number of items it can manage (512 I think, might be 511 if I think about the binary)

Actually you got the functionality backwards. The Intravee is the gateway device that converts the car's iBus to Alpine's AiNet protocols. Within its functionality it can inject codes into the car's network to interrogate it or make changes. As an example it can read the speed of the car, show the coolant temperature and set 3 flash indicators. So you plug the Intravee into the car and the Alpine unit into the Intravee. Your Apple device plugs into the Alpine unit.

ha ha ... close enough :) the intravee was the expensive bit.... :D makes sense i guess when you think about it as the intravee uses the cd player plugs...

so is there an alternative to the alpine thing then?
