Intravee + USB Advice

Hi All

I read on a forum that Intravee 2 has been discontinued, it this correct?

Assuming I can get a new or second hand one... I have a 57 plate Z4mc with CD changer and MKIV sat nav that I'd like to be able to link a USB flash drive to and be able to see and select tracks through the sat nav. Is this possible?

Doing some research it seems possible through using the Intravee 2 + KCA-400c + KCA-620m. Has anyone else done this? I had read a comment the USB reader, the KCA-620m, takes "some time" to initially read all files on the drive on start-up but there was no comment as to the size of that drive (could have been a 1TB HDD for all I know).

I know this has been discussed before, mostly relating to iPOD's though, and I've read what I can find but I have no clarity. I'd like some help if someone has been able to achieve what I'd like to achieve.

Cheers

All I can say is I bought an Intravee 2 weeks ago and they were still available then.
Can't help with the drive as I use it to interface to an iPod.
There are other threads on here about other devices that use usb.

Hi Coyote

Where did you buy from? Was it toysinyourcar.com?

Did you use a Alpine KCA-420i iPod adapter? toysinyourcar.com says this isn't compatible with latest iPod Nano. I might consider this route but would prefer USB stick.

Cheers

You can use the KCA-620m with the Intravee (and an AI-Net switch if you want), but you need the latest V6.02 firmware.

However, it's not a 'good' device and has lots of limitations. This is by no means an exhaustive list of it's limitations :

- Re-reads the USB drive every time it's selected or powered up, this can take up to 30 seconds with the maximum number of files supported (see later!).
- Always starts playback from the first song written to the drive, so you'd better like that song!
- Will not support USB hard drives, not enough power is provided from the USB port.
- Maximum TOTAL files on a drive is 1024, above that and random things start happening when playing songs. It's not a device for large MP3 collections!
- Maximum search capability of 255 Songs per folder.
- No Random mode ability.

The Intravee II is still available and, as far as I know, in stock at ToysInYourCar.

The Intravee II + KCA-420i will work with the latest Gen 6 Nano, but there are two limitations (both can be worked around)

- The iPod will not charge, use a charge converter such as a Scosche Passport.
- The iPod enters Hibernation quite quickly to save battery life, as do the latest iPod Touches, either mount the iPod up front so you can wake it up or modify the KCA-420i so it can wake up the iPod - calendar reminders are not a workable solution.

Thanks for that Richard, I got the Scosche unit as well to charge the new iPhone so I knew about that.

As I am getting a new Gen 6 Nano as part of the Apple Replacement program, good to know it will work with the Intravee as well.

Yes, thanks for the info on the KCA-620m, Richard. I think I'll go down the iPod route with the KCA-420i and Scosche Passport.

Do you know any links to a good illustrated How To guide for installation?

PVR, is this for the first gen recall they have just done as I've just sent Mrs. Hutch's back but couldn't find what they were going to replace with.

Yes ,it is. And they have just announced that they can not replace them with the early models anymore as they have run out so they are sending 6th generations ones instead :)

And no - you can not get away with "look darling, I got you a new iPod nano for Christmas" :D
