Hi,

if i was to get a Intravee and have not got a disc changer do i mount it to the head unit instead? I have been looking through the threads on this but its not obvious to me how i set it.

Advice n tips welcome

No, you use the CD cables (every UK supplied car has those).

I mounted it in the cubby hole.

sorry for being dumb, so without the Alpine KCA 420i can not connect a Ipod to the Intravee?

That's almost right, but you don't connect the iPod to the Intravee you connect the iPod to the KCA420 - the Intravee just acts as a translator and allows the KCA420 to connect to the car's internal network.

The Intaravee is a gateway device - it converts the car's iBus protocols to Alpine AiNet and vice-versa. The Alpine KCA-420i iPod adapter is an AiNet device so you need the Intravee to allow it to 'talk' to the car

As i have a Ipod lead connected to my BMW stereo which i guess was part of option pack 677 "Loud speaker system - BMW Pro" would i need the Alpine KCA 420i in addition to the Intravee?

The Intravee seems as rare as hens teeth, any advice on were to get one out side of Ebay?

Cheers :)

You probably have the BMW OEM iPod interface which from memory was only ever an after fit option. There were no iPod interfaces as standard or with any stereo packages except AUX in from 2007 MY.

Go to the toysinyourcar.com website and you can buy Intravee II units brand new for about £150.

Ebay is the best source of alpine units though and you should be able to get one with the cables for around £40 delivered if you prowl for a while.

You will indeed, but the BMW iPod lead or it could be a Dension Ice Link Plus will need to be disconnected so you might as well remove and sell as you should get around £75 for it. That will cover the cost of the KCA.
