Intravee & Alpine unit (not mine) - and some other random

I've got an 0806 and it seems to be fine - there were issues with the early batches but I think that had been resolved now

There's one gripe that people seem to keep bringing up and that's that the camera won't use two sd cards in sequence - it has two sd card slots and it was originally supposed to be able switch to the second once the first was full, but it doesn't seem to do that. You can tell it which one to use but it won't switch automatically.

Don't think I need the dual SD card element, or to keep that much footage, so would probably run with just the one.

I like the look of the blackvue, but I does seem about twice the size I expected from the photos (width wise) and twice the price!

How do you manage the parking element with the 0806. Perry?

Mines an 0801 or 3 can't remember. Just used the supplied power adapter modified to get power from the mirror.

Have you got details of this power thing?

Think it will be more a boys day out to be honest, don't think I will be very popular in organising an event especially as I have one part of my Dutch family here this weekend, and some more the weekend after.

Cool with that, thought that might be the case... I'll stand her down

Only for the blackvue, but seen reference to the requirement for a 'parking mount' for the 08** cams. Having listened to most of tech moans videos, and a US chap, it seems like the Korean cams use this functionality better (eg blackvue) vs the other Chinese manufacturers.

In fairness I think the 0805 will be more than adequate for 99% of my needs.

Don't use it - in order to use it you need a permanent live connection, if you have that you lose the ability to start recording automatically when you start the car.

If I wanted to use it without worrying about draining the car battery, I'd add a battery power pack in the light recess (plenty of room), connect the usb power lead (ignition switched) to the power pack charging port and the camera to a power pack output port. The power pack would charge when the ignition was on and supply constant power to the camera even when the ignition was off - if the car was off for long periods the power pack would eventually discharge completely and stop supplying power to the camera but a 5000mAh power pack should last quite a while and can be obtained for under £20

Ok, get the theory there (just about my limit technically), but not a clue as to what to purchase in order to make this a reality.....or whether the generous 'forum fitters' ( :o ) are able to accommodate such an install!

How long would 'quite a while' be, hours, days, or weeks?

I got my 0806 from Combi few weeks back - they had a great reputation. My 0805 came from there as well.

Depends on the drain of the camera in standby mode - it should have this in the camera specs, then divide power pack capacity by this figure. To put it in perspective a 2300mAh battery gives a Nexus 5 mobile phone 300 hours on standby.

And I've said a 5000mAh power pack, but they come in larger sizes too, I have a 20000mAh version that would still fit comfortably in the light recess.

Excellent, looks good to me.

If it is confirmed I can cheekily get another thing fitted, I will order it

Like Perry's idea for parking security

Perry, where did you get your 06 from?

Nervous about lower quality versions.

Thanks

Matt
I got mine from carcamerashop.co.uk - they were out of stock and awaiting a new shipment from the factory, I was happy with this as I knew I'd be getting one from the latest production run. I also got the optional CPL filter
