internal condensation

I have a 2004 e85 with hardtop fitted, i have noticed that i am getting condensation enough to run down the inside of the windscreen, i havent used the car much over xmas /new year and am just wondering if this is usual or do i need to be looking for a cause, i'm sure its not a leak as it appears as separate droplets at different areas of the screen. Any thoughts appreciated.

It sounds as though your car is damp inside causing the condensation to form?

i have checked that and it doesnt steam up like it was damp inside its more like the you get on a single glazed window.

Running down rather than moisture distributed evenly? Spray a hose at the front of the top and see if that causes it.

If you have a dehumidifier I’d try sticking that in there for a day and see if it continues.

Even a decent drive with the ac on high should get the moisture out.

My car sits on our drive Monday - Friday and I haven’t ever had anything over than a light mist on the windows.

My carpets etc are bone dry so I'm 99% certain I don't have a leak but my Zed with hardtop sometimes mists up if I've been out in it with the heater on then come home and park it, but only if it is very cold outside. I have started dropping the windows and switching the heater off when I'm half a mile from home to clear any warm/moist air from the cars interior and this seems to help.

Patriot thats exactly my scenario and to be honest they havent been long trips will have to go out for a longer run and turn the temp down a little i think.

My car does the same with the hard top on, I also switch the heater off a couple of miles from home but it still does it. Car feels dry inside.

I noticed exactly this last night when i left work and it was quite cold outside. I too have a hardtop fitted, and thought it waa weird to see what looked like water droplets on the inside of the windscreen.

I've had the hardtop on for months and it's never happened before, so i can only assume it's moisture from inside the car. My heaters currently don't work properly, so the car rarely gets hot inside.

This is what u get with a pretend coupe :poke:

This all sounds perfectly normal to me. We've just had days of wet and rain and fairly mild. Despite aircon on or off each set of clothes wet, shoes, snow, etc. loads the car with water. We've just had much colder evenings and nights so condensation will form on the coldest points, usually the glass
.
You won't fix it until the temperatures rise, the car is left doors open on a warmer day to air, etc. You can put the large silica gel packs in which I use in a parked up spare car on the drive to great effect, but they need drying out every couple of weeks on a house rad for a day

No point in chasing imaginary water leaks, although you may have one that hasn't showed up until now, but I doubt it

Thanks for all the input guys, i think you are right, confident i dont have any leaks and this morning the screen was clear, i think its all down to how i have been using it over the last few days.

I think the mats can hold a bit of moisture when it's wet out and you bring it in on your shoes, AC should help with that.

I use a silica gel pack from Costco to prevent this in my car, take it out after a few days to "dry" overnight on the radiator. Stops the need for having the screen blower going full Welly first thing.
Mind you my car is garaged overnight.

Cheap alternative. Use cat litter in an old sock. Tie the sock end and place under the seat replace every two weeks

It's just physics. On cold damp days once you turn off your car and park up the temperature differential between the air inside your car and the air outside is large. This means that the air inside your car will have temporarily attained a higher humidity level than the air outside as your heater has raised the temp. The glass in your windscreen then cools down very rapidly and as the warm air inside your car comes into contact with it moisture is released (as air cools it's ability to hold moisture reduces).

If you have lifted your carpets and the soundproofing underneath them is dry then it's just atmospheric conditions. Don't just feel the surface of your carpet check properly underneath.
