Internal boot release button?

On my E85 there was a button below and to the right of the steering wheel to release the boot

Should there be one on my E89? There looks like there's a plastic blanking plate where a button could be

I seem to remember reading something about there being a switch fitted for the American market

Edit
Although thinking about it the steering wheel would be on the other side

There's one in the US vehicles but we don't have it. Your only option if you close the boot with the battery disconnected is to apply power to the terminals under the bonnet or punch your way through the ski loading hatch and reconnect the battery by reaching through.

Or run a lanyard from the emergency boot release into the cabin somewhere to yank if all else fails (apparently).

Interesting thanks - I wonder why BMW deemed it not required for the UK market - I used to find it quite useful in my E85

Buy the button and wire it in yourself. I bought a button but never got round to wiring it in. Never needed to use it even if.

Maybe because it’s possible to open the e89 boot via the roundel, unlike the e85?

I added a bowden cable since its place is prepared, because of the American market
Did you follow a write up,a few bits of info would be useful.TIA

Bit of a coincidence this thread....

Getting Royal to refurb my steering wheel, disconnected the battery before messing with the airbag a couple of days ago. Got the wheel off no problem at all, shut the boot, realised I couldn't close the doors properly (windows wouldn't go down a bit to miss the roof). Luckily the car was facing the right way and I could pull the other one up next to it to get some power!

PS it's probably easier to mail a bomb than a steering wheel.....DHL cancelled my delivery after I'd paid, silly me used the phrase "steering components". They let me pay though!!

How do you open the boot from inside?.... Asking for a friend.

Ps it's a bit cold and dark at the mo

By reaching through the ski hatch (if fitted) & pulling the bowden cable (if fitted) which is attached to the soft close mechanism.
It’s standard fitment in the US market.

Thats actually a good idea, could secure it with tiny easy break cable ties and leave the handle in the rear storage compartment....

More difficult than you think, don’t forget the boot of the e89 pivots at each end :?

I installed one of these switches on my e89 and use it all the time, It unlatches the boot. Same as Roddy above. I bought the switch secondhand with connector (Standard on a number of BMW models) and had to order a BMW Pigtail cable to wire it to the controller under the dash. Awkward but works really well. I have a write up here somewhere.
