Internal boot release button retrofit

I have confirmed that it can be done with ProTool. Listed under "Interior" then Junction Box (JBBF), then "Control" and finally "Unlock Tailgate"

The question remains can it be done with an active error??? I'm assuming it can, since the infamous Diagnose Dan did it with whatever scan tool he used.

Good to know as I always carry Protool in the car

Perfect, that is the same naming path as in INPA.

I assumed already earlier, that his video is based on an artificial fault. He hadn't to diagnose, he knew what he had built into the car.

I will do an additional check with my ""Y3 Roof Diagnostic System" the next days, where I can simulate the real roof fault situation I found in the Z4 named above.

Simulation done.

Both microswitches on top of the two rams in the trunk always have to be in sync, either pressed or unpressed. Not accepted by the CTM are different signals in case of the typical aging of these switches as well as timing differences above a small tolerance in case of being switched.

Test 1:
I put an external switch on my Y3 diagnostic system test board and sent two opposite signals to the CTM.
Test 2 and Test 3:
On my test board, I removed the corresponding jumpers from the internal switches and simulated a wire break on each of the two switches.

Good news: On each test case I was able to get the trunk lid opened with INPA.

Well,
today I've tested with INPA on my Z4. I was able to open the boot lid on the following path:
Launch INPA - Select E89 - Body - Junction Box Passenger JBBF - "F6 Ansteuern" (Control) - "F6 Heckklappe öffnen" (open trunk lid)

Important is, that the ignition is switched on. Maybe that it was off when I tried it on the Z4 with the roof issue.

Doesn't matter. If your roof stucks far away from home, you do have enough time to search on your mobile.

That’s true..and I guess plenty of time..

Thanks Robbi! That's extremely valuable info. Knowing I can get into the boot with ProTool allows me access to the Ctm module and pumps.
It would be interesting to know if the boot can also be opened with Bimmerlink.

Just for info purposes. I contacted Bimmerlink, and their software does not support opening the boot lid. So, if anyone, with a convertible hardtop is considering software, BimmerLink might not be the best option. Especially since the cost is similar to Bimmergeek ProTool.

Maybe we should start a topic to list software options that support unlocking the boot lid...

  1. INPA: yes
  2. ISTA+/Rheingold: only sometimes, no recommendation
  3. Carly: no
  4. Bimmerlink: no
  5. Bimmergeeks Protool: yes
  6. Foxwell 530: ?? does it always open, also in fault situations?
