Intermittent Xenon Bulb

Hi Guys,

I've just had a bulb warning come on the dash and it seems that the nearside headlight bulb is out. It started last night but weirdly came back to life after I turned off the ignition and played around with the headlight switch. This morning however it has gone out completely. My first test will be to swap the bulbs around to rule out a bad bulb but I have a suspicion it will be an igniter or ballast.

In the event of it being either an igniter or ballast, has anyone ever changed either? I'm aware that the bumper will need to come off but is there any sure way to test whether it is the igniter or ballast other than swapping the parts over? Fitting a new ballast seems pretty straight forward but I'm unsure about the igniter - can't see how this fits on?

Thanks guys,
Josh

the arrows point to open and close

remove the metal clip, twist, this unlocks the cable and pull off

easiest way is to just swap a bulb, then swap a ignitor, if its still off then ballast and ye its a bumper off job

Ah I see, not that complicated then. How would one swap the ignitors? Do they have any cables that attach to them, are they removable without disassembling the headlight unit?

once u twist they pull off leaving bulb still in headlight housing the cable goes in top right then comes out

ye easy done via panel at back

I recently replaced my bulbs (whiter ones, not faulty) and both my igniters weren't plugged in properly. They have a cable at the top which unclips. All done though the wheel arch cover.
Don't know where the ballast is so can't help there unfortunately.

Here is a Youtube video on getting your bulb out.

He has the mechanics of removal well explained, but is confused with some of the part names.
He calls the igniter the ballast. So remember it's the igniter attached to the base of the bulb.
He also calls the bulb the low beam. Only one headlight bulb in a Zed with Zennon Headlights.

My Zed started to behave as you described. Intermittent bulb on and off.
Time to replace the bulb. Order up a pair and save yourself aggravation.
Stock bulbs are 4300 (lumiens ?)
I went with whiter light 6000 (lumiens?)

Good luck
Bumpy

ps ..Don't touch the bulb glass with your fingers
