My problem is the the car starts intermittently. Heres my story.

I put the key in the ignition the lights on the dash come, I turn the key on nothing nothing happens. I turn the back to the off postion try again nothing happens. I try again then the car starts. Sometimes it is 2 out of 10 times sometimes happen 2 out three times. I got a new key and had the dealer program the new key. When he programed the key all the radio settings went to default setting. Went home and the problem persisted. Went back to dealer and someone else programed the key and now the radio station settings went back to where they were before I had the dealer program the keys orignially. Now back home and the intermittent start happened again and now the radio settings went back to default. The battery is 3 months old, charging system is in working conditions and all electrical functions seem ok. Any suggestions. I have read that the key immobilizer can be a problem, maybe fuel lock trouble.

I have the same problem with my 2004 2.5

This issue has been driving me crazy!!!!

I noticed something with mine......I know the car will not start when I turn the key to position II; and only the red 'airback' icon comes lights up on the dash board. When this happens, I leave the key in position II and patiently wait for the lights to come on the dash (see below)

As opposed to a normal/healthy start which is, when the ignition is put in position II; an array of lights come on the dash board, followed by a low humming noise (fuel pump priming) and then it starts.

Is this the same with you?

Also, found this thread with an excellent video of the exact same problem I have

I am having the same problem. Checked the battery in car, battery in key transponder, thinking it may be the key switch but does anyone have an answer yet. Mine also stalls out when put in Reverse which makes me think it's not the keyswitch. HELP!!!
Thanks

Hi guys,

I never really got a chance to say thank you to WLH.

I must have spent 100's of pounds and endless hours trying to fix this problem (mine too used to stall out when I put it in reverse), however it turned out to be the same ignition part (# 61326901961) as stated in WLH's post. Cost me £100 for part and labour.

If you're having the exact same problem then my honest advice is to tell your garage to change this part number (# 61326901961), it's only £100, worth taking a pot in my opinion.
