Intermittent issue - car not starting

CanterburyZ4

Good Morning guys,

I'm hopeful that someone can help me solve an intermittent issue I have getting my Z4 started.

I get a yellow warning light that looks like the car is up on ramps.

There are no sounds when I insert the key. Normally you hear some whirring/clicking going on behind the scenes (steering wheel unlocking etc...), but when it has this fault, just silence.

The way to resolve it seems to be call the person from the AA and when they arrive, it starts first time with no faults logged! The battery is new and they've tested that, no problem there.

Any suggestions on what it might be? Ignition switch?

Thanks

Paul

when you go to the iDrive alert screen what does it say about the alert?

perhaps the new battery is not connected well

It could be a faulty battery too. AA should be able to test that. When my starter motor started to die I used to get these symptoms. E86 though

I've had two breakdown guys test the battery and both said it's fine. The battery was replaced only 1 year ago. The connections are tight too.

A good way to test the battery is putting the car onto auto headlights. If the battery is too low, the lights will not come on when you unlock.

Your battery could be fine, but is it fully charged?

I would guess at a critically low battery for the reason.

Get a cTek and give it a good soak.
