New owner here. I bought a 2010 about 2 months ago (time flies!). I love the car, it's amazing and I've had a lot of great rides. I was surprised to suddenly have an issue with the audio. When I start the car I realized I had no radio volume. I checked the mute, am vs fm vs cd and volume on the wheel vs dash. Nothing. After about 20 minutes of driving, it suddenly came on. Then the next morning, no audio again and I realized that there were no system sounds either, no courtesy chime, no warning chime when I don't have my belt on etc. I also discovered that other than the one time that it spontaneously came on that every other time it was either on when I turned the car on or off for the whole ride. It never went off once it was on.
The dealer told me to bring it right in the next time it was dead. I did and in short order this was marked as "confirmed". They did an afternoon of diagnostics and sent the results to BMW for confirmation that it is a bad amplifier. I've still got the car, and it should be replaced some time next week. hope this is the fix!
