A word to the wise. Do not expect main dealer to carry out this repair.
I had this problem back in 2009 at the time my car was due a service. Asked main dealer to check it out and report came back new wiper motor required £160.00. Not being aware of the fix I reluctantly agreed and they kept the car whilst part was ordered overnight.
That night I discovered the fix on this website, printed the information off and went back next morning to discuss whether or not new wiper motor was really needed. I was told in no uncertain terms that the dealership does not follow advice given on internet forums and was given a copy of the flow chart that the tecnnician apparently uses...the last entry being "replace wiper motor" and was told that the repair of such components was perhaps the work of specialist auto electricians but certainly not a main agent and asked if "sir would like wiper motor replacing or not?"
I was between a rock and a hard place. I needed the car back with properly working wipers that day and it was approx -5 degrees outside not ideal for stripping down wiper motor, so after a bit of a row I very reluctantly agreed.
The wiper motor was fitted and worked OK but it was a little noisy. I just could not face going back to have it sorted at this time given the experience and resolved that given the part was guaranteed for two years I would have it sorted before then.
Fast forward 23 months and the car goes back for its next service. I ask them to check out the wiper motor which is still under guarantee and a little noisy.
I get the phone call to say that the service has been completed and that the wiper motor has been sorted quite simply.................
yes you guessed it just needed to be taken apart and lubricated.
So clearly a different flow chart for dealing with warranty issues that allows for the repair of components.
