Interim oil change?

I've still got about 8,000 miles to go to inspection 1 and with current useage I wouldn't expect to get there until late next summer. The question is should I change the oil and filter this summer as it's coming up to a year since it's last service? i don't track it but it gets caned when I can drive it the way it should be driven :)

I don't have any great evidence to back me up, but personally I would. I'm planning on changing my own oil half way between services (I haven't owned mine long enough to get there yet though). Common sense suggests the engine is likely to last longer if it doesn't have mucky oil going through it, and I know mechanics who change the oil in their cars as often as every 6 months.

On a related note, does anyone know how easy it is to change the oil on the Z4MR? Is the drain plug easily accessible or do you have to remove plastic panels etc?

I think you have to drop the plastic panel but someone may be able to confirm that. I'll probably do mine before the Autumn, better safe than sorry!

Yup, i'd do it as well. It's relatively low cost and can only do good. I'll do an oil change shortly even though the car's showing 9500 miles to Inspection.

In Canada - BMW recommended (free) M oil service is 1 year or indicated service - I change mine twice per year regardless...
