Can less power be more fun than big power output ? At the moment I've got a 23i with the lovely 6cyl engine which although I find occasionally lacks a little bit of grunt I do enjoy at times giving it plenty of revs but staying reasonably within the speed limits. So yesterday I got the chance to try the 35is I'm thinking of buying and my word it did sound good and did it go, BUT!! without even trying we were well on the wrong side of some speed limits, which worried me quite a lot.

So that set me thinking can you really have more fun with a smaller engine that you can thrash, or does big power win every time even on our overcrowded, camera infested roads.

Do I keep my 23i or do I go mad and buy the 35is even at my 60 plus years ?

Show me a Z4 driver who always sticks to the speed limit.......

It's a big change....and you will never look back after a 35iS

No question about it
It's got to be the 3.5i
What's age got to do with it?
Once a Petrol Head
Always a Petrol Head
I'm 67 this year and my next car is going to be the 3.5i
Ive got a 3.0 now which is fantastic
I've had big engine sporty cars all my life and there's no reason to change as you get older
In fact it gets easier because of less commitments with mortgage, kids, finances
Just go for it

No Question I had a 23i before my 35i and it did lack a bit of grunt on occasions the noise of the 35i is great and you don't have to drive it flat out all the time my age is 60yrs
and it's nice to have a car like this to drive when your retired  :D

And think of how cheap the Saga insurance is!!

I have a friend who I saw last night, he just bought an Aventador.....his insurance is £8000 a year!!

Good question, judging by the success of the GT86 plenty of people seem to agree that you don't need ultimate speed to have fun..

Yes, I bought a E89 3.0 last year aged 71 and am already thinking at 72 I should change up to a 3.5 . Just need to convince the other half . Insurance is not a problem at a little over £200.00 comprehensive plus a few extra,s . So yes go for it you won't look back.

Less is sometimes more - but the noise and ability to overtake with ease + just bimbling along knowing I have 340bhp to play with if I wish ... was enough to make me buy the 35iS :D

I sold my Z4M Roadster for a E92 320D coupe. Nice car but a serious mistake. I changed it to a 330d coupe ... and now have the 35iS.

Sometimes too much power is a handful and not enjoyable (which is why I will not remap the 35iS) but the amount and ease you can use the power the 35iS has is just wonderful.

As you can tell I like it :D

Hi guys, So I listened to all the advice, then today went out and ordered my new 35is, Melbourne Red, Canberra Beige Leather, Anthracite Wood, Comfort Pack, Seat Heating, and Advanced Loudspeaker System, No Sat Nav, I rarely go far enough to get lost anyway.

Good man. You can never have too much power. Just press the throttle down a little less, when it's not all required. Simples!

Oh and :worthless:

Sorry!!! No pics for a while don't get the car till end of Nov, but worst of all the dealer wants my current 23i by the end of this month, so no Z4 at all for 3 Months, then as I don't use it during the winter months it'll be sitting in my nice warm garage getting plenty of TLC for another 3months so roll on next spring.
