Interesting new runabout - rather pleased

So I've been looking for something to throw the dog and fishing gear in, carry a bit of 'stuff' and take an occasional tow bar and roof rack. Had to be low mileage, with some spec', be at least a little bit interesting, oh and cheap. I've been all over wasting time on downright fraudulently described sheds including a 300 mile round trip for an apparently immaculate, full history up-together early X3 which turned out to have no history for the last 6 years, one key and a lovely 4WD warning light 200m in to the test drive! "It's never done that before" the guy says, yea right :headbang:

So I'de come to the conclusion that my miserly £3.5k budget was a no-go, then I spotted a promising 2005 Scooby Forester 2.0 xT just over the border in Devon, a wee bit over budget but surely worth a look. Turns out it's the 175 bhp boosted jobbie with panoramic roof, cruise, climate, heated bums and an incredible 44k miles! The old boy that owned it had it serviced every 4k miles on average and kept every invoice including for recent cam belt, brakes, battery, bushes and alternator. Really clean bar a couple of small scuffs and drives like a 2 -3 year old car as tight as a drum. The dealer was a really nice guy who clearly had a margin in it so I bid him down slightly and I'm getting it with a new MOT, Service, warranty and keeping the nice A2 *** number plate that's worth a few hundred. So hopefully patience pays off but I think it's going to be a goodun :D

Anybody owned one of these?

Nice looking motor.
That'll be perfect for getting down a little track leading to a remote cottage I visited last weekend in Pembrokeshire

...... ah yes visiting the micro-climate, surely will be

That looks to be in great condition, and with that history, it sounds like it's in perfect working order. Lucky find!

I'm looking for a similar run about to put miles on. £3k ish and was looking at the Outback, Legacy, Volvo T5 etc. To have the cam belt change is a bonus.

Enjoy! Great find!

Don't know anything about them, but that looks like a good deal.

18 months ago I wanted a decent daily - found an 80K miles 325ti Sport Compact with full leather and CD changer for a fiver less than £2K, so I bought it!

Can't have too many petrol straight 6s IMHO! :D

Great find.

We used to have a 220bhp Fozza and it was decent. Nothing went wrong in 3 years and it serves its purpose. Used to surprise people when on boost too! Think 0-60 was low 7s so not bad at all.

Being a Subaru, you can't go wrong with the purchase as they know how to build cars. A mate has one and swears by it.

Good choice  If it's anything like the Impreza estate we owned it will be bullet proof. Bought it with 185k miles on the clock for a few hundred pounds and sold it 12 months later for the same money. Never cost me a bean in that time and it's the only car i've owned and never lost money. Sold to a friend of a friend who has taken it well beyond 200k miles and it's still going strong.
