Will my new Z auto's gear box behaave differently with different keys?
My Wife and I drive very differently, she drives like a mad man and I drive like an old woman, or is that the other way around? My 330d behaves very differently depending on who's key is in the slot will the new Z be the same?

Cheers

Yes, the keys store personal IDs that affect a lot of car settings including driver adaptations. The latter isn't stored on the key but in the car and the key tells the car which one to use. Most other information is stored on the keys however. If you're getting an e89 LCI with iDrive, the newest software contains driver profile information which you can take from car to car also.

Our keys store stuff like seat position etc but as far as I know the only way to change auto behaviour is moving to sport mode. The keys might remember if you were driving in sport and keep it that way even if your wife had driven in the meantime

Anyone know what the difference is between putting the car into sport using the buttons and using the gear selector pushed left?

Sport buttons change things like traction (sport+) as well as steering wheel weighting, auto shift points and suspension (where dynamic suspension fitted). Moving the gear stick left enables later shift points for the gears only and leaves steering etc the way it was. Using both sport on the buttons and sport (gear stick left) on the gearbox makes shift points even later. Shifts are also faster in sport.

Thanks that is v helpful I don't think the manual is very clear on this. You are truly the guru if you sell your zed this forum will have to pay you as a consultant.

I've never used my spare key. Going to give it a go to see if it feels any different :driving:

I remember when I first got the car, setting everything up just the way I liked it.. then some weeks later confused the keys, and got in thinking, why are the seats at such a stupid position, mirrors all wrong, drove like a slug etc... even the iDrive went into grey traffic mode etc... really confused until it clicked I had the spare key in. Got the normal key and presto seats slide back mirrors flick down, iDrive in colour etc... lol

It's only happened twice but the passenger mirror did not adjust itself when I used the car after my wife. Have tested several times and usually works fine. I am sure if I took to dealer it would behave too.
