Insured Warranty

I had an add on for the Disco's insured warranty to cover Mot failure - it failed on brake corroded pipes yesterday.

No problem i thought, the warranty will cover that !
Wrong, it covers ( apart from named brake components) hoses and cables!
They won't pay up

I thought brake pipes were covered, just not for corrosion which is about the only reason they'd fail an MOT :x

Had a similar thing on my e34 M5 insured warranty, where the MOT tester failed it due to leaking EDC front shocks, but BMW wouldn't pay up because they weren't leaking, 'only weeping', and that was 'normal'. Tester wouldn't pass it, so took it to the BMW dealer to get them to pass it, but they wouldn't pass it either! BMW warranty still wouldn't play ball - even with the dealer telling them so. Eventually paid for 1 myself and the dealer claiming for the 2nd as a standard warranty claim (rather than an MOT claim). Still cost me £1200 though.

Had to replace those things every 2 years with the amount of track time I was doing

That was my reason as well - I've checked the booklet and it says under what is covered, hoses and cables!

Always been sceptical about any kind of insured warranty, especially since I met a guy who was employed by an insurance
company to do nothing but "rubbish" any claims ...... the fact that they employ people to do this says an awful lot ......
Reading small print you almost expect to see the line, everything is covered except the things you are likely to claim for.

An example that makes my blood boil - life insurance for over 50's advertised on TV.

Perfect product, exactly what you need ....... until you read the small print.
" ........ if at any time you fail to pay an installment or are late paying an installment the the policy is null an void. "

What are the chances that over a 20 year period say, that your bank will be late making a payment ?
........ and I phoned them up to ask, if I was taken into hospital fatally injured or dying with say cancer (the reason I would want the insurance) ..... and I was unable to make a payment on time because I was unconscious ........ what then ? ......... the answer was, your policy would be cancelled sir and you would lose all the payment you made over 20 years ........
In short ........ insurance company's hired people to make a product that was designed to fail that would generate huge revenues with no payouts ........

At least Dick Turpin had the decency to wear a mask!

I think it will be premiums in the toffee tin from now on :D
