Insured warranty claims-diagnostic fees

Hi
Bought a 35i from another forum member which I had RAC inspected before purchase. Although the car is 11 years old it has the insured warranty all its life so now tranfered into my name. RAC identified 3 items that would need addressing that are were not normal maintence item
1) Small amount of corrosion on roof
2) Oil leak lower engine
3) Whine from turbo at low speed

Never had a warranty before but with all paperwork sorted(inc change of reg plate) rang Sytners to book in to get sorted-2nd attempt first time put thro to dpt and no one answered it
1st response was that £50 diagnostic fee to take car in and get examined.
Explained that didn't think that this was in the spirit of the cars corrosion warranty(she tried to get me through to service dpt without success) and after left holding on whilst she discussed it with someone she put me thro to the body shop.
Great response from then -bring it in well have a look measure paint thickness etc and submit claim if its covered.
But couldn't put me back to reception to sort out 2and 3
Is this typical for warranty claims and any tips for dealing with getting issues sorted. The car had is rocker cover gasket changed by same Sytner garage about 6 months before- would you expect them to have cleaned residue oil on block from this.

Run a 330ci for 13 years all maintenance done by indie -never had a diagnostic fee and £50 would buy me twice as much of his time as BMW's.
Only experience had with Sytners was when first got 330ci car sat lower on drivers side, Syther's charge £90 to tell me needed a new rear damper- took it to Indie to have done diagnosed by him as nothing wrong and passed another 13 MOT's without any damper advisories.
Built expenditure of £250 excess for 2 and 3 into purchase price of car but another £50 each time make a claim seems to be taking the p*ss to me
Any advice appreciated

PS great forum e89 buyers guide superb. Made a post about car in Newbie section but somehow computer asked me to log back in when tried to add a photo and all post wiped out

Sytner's usually charge a standard £50 'diagnostic fee' for computer-based identification of faults.
They usually charge much more - 1.5 hours of labour - for a mechanical examination.

However, a 50+ item 'Health check' with a video to your mobile can be free if they do work on the car for which you pay - an oil service, for instance.
And sometimes they offer these checks 'free' with no strings attached at all - just to tickle trade, I suppose.

In the case of extended warranty work, I paid my £250 excess yesterday for a £1,000 bill with no diagnostic fee.

Perhaps the best thing for you to do is to go to Sytner's in person and sweet-talk a 'Service Advisor'. I'll bet he or she can waive the fee.

Just main stealer general interest level, always wonder why people despise and distrust main stealers then pay them a small fortune for a warranty!!!
Warranty direct give better cover, always pay out without issue if your claim is genuine. MOT fail items are covered not tyres etc of course, even items just wearing are covered. I had one slightly ticking lifter on my 23i, they replaced the whole lot without even blinking, stripped my manual box and rebuilt it and more besides.
My 35i has 3 years complete cover for under £1100, already had a new DCT pan and all the filters etc.
And no i dont work for them lol.

I'm not suggesting BMW Insured Warranty's the best or the cheapest. It's worked well for me, though, and, bearing in mind my car's done 70,000 miles now, £339 for a year's cover ain't bad.

May be looking for a new insurer next year- WD not accepting any new business not clear what will happen at renewal time, but with greatly reduced income they may not be wanting to renew existing policies which could be a liability

At least with the BMW policy that's one thing that I don't have to worry about

Thanks for the info, I have emailed them for clarification ie will they return post covid...., however they state clearly that current customers are ok.

Had a couple of my mortgage brokers close their books due to covid with plans to return afterwards so its not uncommon right now.

According to many articles on the web they don't cover wear and tear as is common with almost all warranty companies. Not sure if they have different tiers and if one of these covered wear and tear but I would be very surprised if they did. Not that any this matters now since they are no longer operating:

Yep very definately covered, as I stated they paid for a 'worn lifter' with a slight tapping sound, in fact they replaced all of them as the chance of getting the right one first time is not great. It does not include consumables like tyres, pads and the like, obviously.
Merry Christmas chum :-)
