Unfortunately I am in a position that is forcing me to sell the Z4 and purchase something more economical :( as a result I have Just had a long conversation with Admiral insurance.

Me: I would like to remove my Z4 from my multi car policy and add on a 1.6 fiesta
Admiral: certainly, no problem.
Me: thanks, what will my new policy be
Admiral: there will be no change in your monthly premium
Me:
Admiral: ???
Me: so I am going from a 3.0l sports car to a 1.6 hatch and you are telling me my policy won't change.
Admiral: no
Me:
Me: why is this
Admiral: well it's because you have no experience of driving the new car
Me: wtf  are you serious?
Admiral: yes

After a lot of laughter and me questioning how a car that is a group 44 on Parkers can possibly the same as a group 14 they decided they needed to speak with the underwriters to establish all of the facts.

:? Der. I've been with Admiral for a while and made quite a few changes but never had this kind of nonsense...

So after another phone call we have established that because the fiesta is a popular car statistically there is more chance of it being involved in an accident regardless of the type of vehicle, so by their logic if I was to have a veyron then my insurance would be cheaper, also because last year someone went into the rear of me (she forgot to brake) statistically (again with the statistics) I am more likely to have a fault claim within three years of this :headbang: I have never in my life heard such lame excuses. Wish me luck with this :x

Visit some comparisons web sites for insurance quotes and see if it's worth cancelling admiral and starting fresh with a new company.

I had bad experience with Admiral when I used them at one time. They were not that cheap in the first place and then wanted extra payments for minor mods to the policy details. There was a thread on here a few months ago where the OP was having a right hassle with Admiral over an accident claim.

I've been with BMW insurance for the last few years, reasonably priced compared to Admiral and no extra charges for policy mods. I recently changed from a 28i to a 20i and they were very quick to refund the difference on the balance of the insured period, plus my annual charge on renewal is about £100 less than last year.

sounds like the usual insurance racket to me. are you near the end of the policy? i looked into getting a tvr 4.5 v8 chimera instead of my westy. i was upgrading from a v6 mondeo and it made no difference what so ever as i was too close to the end of my policy :D

This is why I believe it is about time insurance practices/scams were investigated by an authority. It seems they make it up as they go along and there are no hard and fast rules except those dreamt up on the day.

Unfortunately I am clearly going round in circles, i have provided them with quotes from their own website as well as quotes from GoCompare and Confused, i even provided evidence of statistics that showed which cars were in the most recorded accidents, the list showed MX-5, Porsche Boxster. Merc SLK and a load of 4x4s - none of which surprised me. The upshot is i have continued with insurance for the moment whilst i look into this in more depth as this cant be right, my issue is that it means whenever you buy a new car the insurance is a gamble, you cant begin to judge it on the group or even the car type. As BRC states it is a scam. I am not normally one to complain about stuff like this but this has really got my back up so much so i have even written to watchdog for some advice.

This is scandalous. Isn't there some governing body of car insurers that you could appeal to?

Seems like very bad practice, but in my limited experience of Admiral I'm not altogether surprised.
