Renewal with A-Plan underwritten by Markerstudy - £995

Thought not bad, but I'll get a few more quotes to compare.

So far struggling to find anyone who'll quote anywhere near this.

Car is garaged at night, I'm 29 no claims or points, 6yrs ncb.

So far tried:

Go compare = £1600 but not heard of any of the companies
Admiral = £1900
Directline = tracker needed, won't insure
More Than – Can’t quote this car.
Adrian Flux - £1900
Chriss Knott. - 30 + only
elephant - £2k

About to try , greenlight (brokers) and Noel Daezly (brokers)

Any others?

I'm paying just over £1k for an ungaraged, 30k mile (private & business use) policy with Bell.

Well I'm not currently doing that mileage, but that's what I was doing when I bought it in 2008 and for the £50 or so saving I've not bothered to change it to less mileage.

As 2/3rd of the mileage is on business use, I can claim a lot of it back on expenses/tax. Unfortunately I've mostly been working from home for the last 18 months and is one of the reasons the car was put up for sale.

Strangely, the Shell station closest to me is 1p/litre cheaper than Asda/Morrissons/Tesco for normal unleaded - although for my preferred V-Power there's only one place I can go.

At least for the next 3 months I'll be working down south, and thus will be doing 600 miles a week (or another 7,000 mile on the car by the end of May) - so I'll probably have to adjust the price to reflect the 'high' mileage :x

Just had my renewal quote from More th>n for £630. Called them & they lowered the quote to £550. Checked how much it would be to do on line with More th>n & it came up at £443 Barmy! And the renewal quote was for my 2007 car up for sale http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2440030.htm The new on line quote was for my new 2008 Z4MR

Just me & the Mrs. as drivers. Both quotes have £600 excess (keeps the price down!), legal assistance & Europe breakdown cover.

How mad is that?

Cookie.

Got admiral multicar back in Sept for my 2007 MC with tracker, 27, 7yr ncb, parked on drive - individual cost works out at about £750.

From a couple of my friends have found out that postcode plays a massive part in this. I know that quotes than have gone down a few hundred just by switching a postcode a couple of miles away. One friend even has all three of his family car insured out of London because of this, does create issues when claims are made though so its not recommended IMO.

Cheers.

Update to conclude this.

Best prices were all from specialist brokers in the end.

Greenlight: £975
Noel Daezly: £895
A Plan: £920

All three tried really hard to get a good price. A Plan's price has £50 lower excess, includes 19" CSL rims and the are my current insurer so stayed with them.

Admiral sent me my renewal letter the other day, tried to charge me an extra £500 on last year!! I rang them up and they told me that prices have gone up across the board. So I went off and ran a few comparison sites, at first the cheapest quote was £1700!! I ran the exact same details a few more times over the same day as the prices kept changing. Eventualy I got a quote for £1000, from guess who, Admiral!

Absoloutely. My insurance went up from about £450 a year to £700 a year when moving from a GU22 postcode to SE21 in London. I was always insured with Adrian Flux until a couple of years ago and now the Admiral group are consistently the cheapest year on year. I don't know if that is because of my age (35) or my location in London now compared to a few years ago. Chris Knott, despite having an advert on this site, wouldn't insure a Z4M for me.

Had my renewal through from aviva £518 up £105 from last year
With no claims, tried Adrain Flux £500 with a company called markerstudy
That's for a 33 year old
6 years no claims
3 points sp30
Parked on driveway
Private and business use
Np postcode
£1000 excess
No claims protected
5000 miles a year
So that's the one for me!! Can't believe it's was cheaper to insure than my van!

I found OneQuote Direct were the cheapest at £750 with no excess, 7 yrs excess, Warwickshire postcode, no mods, 25K private and unlimited business, legal cover, 34 yrs old (me - not the car :P ), and garaged.
My 'old' (but mint) Prelude VTEC with mods (circa 240hp), used to be £800yr FC, with similar setup but £250 excess.
In response to someones previous comment re: running a Z4M over 30K mls, I am actually finding the Z4M more efficient than the Prelude! This morning I saw that my average consumption since purchase in Sept last yr was 24.7mpg. Average fill of £65 (V-power only), and 300-340 to the tank. Prelude returned 300mls to £75 fill, and needed oil change every 3K. That was an expensive (but fun) car to drive/own. The Z4M is a completely different animal though and far more competent on ice/snow/water even tho rwd.

Postcodes REALLY make a huge difference to your premium for sure!
