Insurance Time!

Hey everyone, it's that time of year again to renew my car insurance. Currently with Admiral but as expected, their renewal rate is higher than other quotes I've had from the likes of Moneysupermarket etc.

Other than the usual price comparison sites, does anyone have any good experiences or suggestions for Insurance companies I can get quotes from?

Thanks.....
Marco

I spoke to Admiral as well to go through my 5 cars, and they reduced all premiums without me pushing for anything specific.

Went down by well over £300 on the lot of them. They have play room with premiums when you call them, and when you are nice to whoever you speak, they will do their utmost to get a good price.

As a suggestion - ensure you get a native English / Welsh / Scottish person rather than an Indian call centre, as they will help you as much as they can

ring admiral with the quote from moneysupermarket - they'll usually match it

tell them u found it cheaper, they will ask how much and just say around whatever the best quote was. they will then do a quote for ya and its normally much better that the best quote online

re-quote Admiral as 'your neighbour' with the same details etc, then phone Admiral. They discount new policies and usually price match if you push them. They have with me for the past 2 years,

Get an on-line quote from Comparethemarket or Confused.com. You may be surprised. Mine costs me £186 fully comp (limited to 5000 miles).

I wish! The best so far for me is around £580..... but I'll keep searching and then once I have the best price, I'll go back to Admiral and see what they can do!

If your with Admiral just check the car they quote you on is the one they insure you on.

Wasn't in my case :x

Z4 ///M on the quote
Z4 2.5si on the insurance docs.

insurance on 3.0si coupe £735 (£150 XS) renewed in June with Admiral (me & mrs)
insurance on E9x M3 cab £736 (£150 XS) quote on the phone with Bell last week (me & mrs)

so a 53% increase in HP = £1 more insurance

I'm old and decrepit , live in a one horse village on the Isle of Wight - renewal this year £240 fully comp from those lovely people at SAGA - poor old git like me shouldn't really be let loose with a 3 litre zed !

Hahaha.....love it!

I guess that is one thing to look forward to in "older" age.....cheap car insurance!

I just wanted to let everyone know the outcome of this.....

The cheapest insurance I found was with Elephant (through confused.com). I called Admiral up and advised them of the better quote, turns out Admiral and Elephant are the same company so lucky I didn't lie about the Elephant quote (and knock a few quid off it), as she was able to quickly pull up the quote I did with Elephant! In the end they matched the Elephant price, and I have to say the lady from Admiral was very friendly, and although she kept trying to sell me more and more, she was very nice about it. I decided to renew with them given that they were willing to match the best price and I prefer to stay with the same company (even though most insurance companies don't reward loyalty).

In the end I haven't managed to reduce my insurance much since the first year (last year was just under £700, this year is around £600) but I did reduce my excess from £350 to £100, so I guess not too bad! Was an expensive weekend for me having to pay for insurance and road tax.......almost £900 gone in a matter of minutes! But I still love driving my Zed! :driving:

Thanks for all the advice everyone......

admiral ftw. 800 for me these days. didn't know about elephant and admiral working as one though...multicar with admiral can save you some more too

£500 for me. But thats not too bad given the roads here. Plus, over here you just insure the car... and anyone with a license can drive it 8)
