Insurance renewal

Just got the insurance renewal in for the Zed yesterday:

Me as the only driver, 37 years old, 15+ years of driving, 17 years no claims, parked on driveway at night, work carpark during the day, excess: £350, 8000 miles per year, £404 with Admiral.

This was only up by around £10 on last year, and comparethemeerkat wasn't giving anything significantly cheaper.

I also spoke to them on the phone as I wanted to get a rough quote for adding another car to the policy and turning it into a multi-car policy (me using both cars equally). The other car I'm looking at is a 2011 (11 plate) Fiesta Zetec S TDCi. The saleschap asked if I was sitting down before he told me the figures! :? Basically the Zed would reduce to £153 and the Fiesta would be £197, meaning that both would cost £350 :D Even the saleschap was surprised at this saving but we went through all the details again and everything was correct.

Don't you just love insurance companies. :yeah:

How does the no claim work now? My perhaps incorrect assumption was that one of the cars was not earning no claim when you remove it from the policy.

With the 5 cars I have I have often thought about it, but was always worried that it would be a one way street and I would never be able to leave the company anymore.

I only have the Polo with Admiral at the moment.

each car effectively has its own policy, just with a multicar discount...

watch it is subsequent years though as I found they then hiked the premiums and it wasnt such a good deal.

They also engineer it so that all your renewal dates come on the same day.... so you then end up with one big bill at one point during the year rather than staggered...

Another downside is that I claim % of premium for business use, so in a total combined policy that would be difficult (you can tell my tax inspection is still ongoing ... :x ).

except that IIRC they do give you individual prices for each car...

I hate tax :(

ah ok, that is good to know.

Do you get foreign cover included (at comprehensive level) or is it like my current policies at £27 a pop?

from their policy wording on their website:
Your policy gives you the cover described in your current Certificate of Motor Insurance
for events occurring in;
n Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man and the Channel Islands
n Any other country which is a member of the European Union
n Norway, Switzerland, Iceland, Croatia, Andorra and Liechtenstein
The car is covered whilst it is being transported by air, sea or rail between those countries.
Using your car abroad
Your policy automatically includes a FREE International Motor Insurance Certificate for
up to 30 consecutive days, in a trip, up to a total of 90 days in a year. The International
Motor Insurance Certificate is only valid for the above named countries and there is no
need to call us if you are taking your car to any of these countries. However, should you
wish to travel to any country, not included in the above list, please call us and we may, in
some instances, be able to issue a Green Card.

The trick often is that they provide minimal cover in those countries automatically, but not fully comp ...

Just what I was thinking......its confusing though because for a lot of insurers, a Green Card means fully comp, hence the £20-£30 charge the usually make for the extra risk over and above 3rd party....

Yeah, as gannet says, they give you different prices for each car, and you can have different criteria on each car, like annual mileage, whether social, commuting, where they are parked overnight etc.
