Did you point thatgun at them to give you a good price??

Try putting a London postcode in to see what you get!

they would only laugh - its an airsoft gun (M4), but bloody accurate

Yes London is bad for car insurance - I lived in islington for some years and one year paid over £1700 on insurance for a mx5 1.8

Paid something around £450 for the coupe when I bought it. 29yo, married, home-owner, software engineer, stored in garage, 3 points for an SP50, IAM pass 2 years ago and 7 yrs NCB living in Huntingdon. It's with the IAM's own (is actually Adelaide I think from memory). In my experience, if you do the IAM then they ask you what your lowest quite is and automatically knock £xxx off it depending on your circumstances.
Don't know if it's true, but I gather rag-top insurance is higher? Also the 3 points depends what it's for - if it's for most speeding offences it's ignored now by insurance companies. If it's 3 for a dangerous thing to have done then it's bound to drive up the insurance

2 x SP30.

Feeling for ya there peddy, bad times mate

I thought mine was high when I renewed in April, cost me £1000 with 500excess.
I live in london too, have 6 points (SP30 & SP50), 3yrs no claims and am 23yrs old!

I'm with Admiral.

Hope you sort something out!

Where in London?? So how are they quoting me 3 times as much when I should be "statistically" better.

I'm older and more NCBs! Plus the SP50 is worse than an SP30. I don't get it!!! :x

EDIT: Can you please do me a huge favour and run a fresh quote with Admiril to see what quote you get now?

Well curiosity got the better of me.. i changed my postcode from Nortwood (north London) to my parents place in st johns wood (central london) and my insure actually went down £12!

You dont live in south croydon/ Brixton by any chance?!

I live in on the Hampshire/Surrey boarder. Excess is £600 and my girlfriend (22 also) is on the policy. Had a crash a few years back in my first car so had to declare that but have no points. Admiral seemed to be the cheapest for me alsothough elephant was close.

Also note that I used various insurance comparison sites to get quotes, and with the same information on each, the Admiral quote varied by about £200. Doing my insurance through 'compare the market' was the cheapest way.

3K£ plus !!!!!! jeez.............

That sounds like they really don't want to be your insurer ..... there has to be a better deal than that out there .......

Just came across this....

http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/car-insurance-job-picker/#whatnext

It shows the impact a job title can have on insurance...

My renewal is up in August. Im 31, 8NCD (protected), 3 points (SP50), live in (wait for it!) Paisley :!: - paid £500 with ESURE last year.

I plan to take FULL advantage of this though - http://www.roadar.org.uk/members/benefits/insurance.asp - I passed last year, the "lessons" were free (only costing my fuel & a bottle of vine for my tutor when I passed). IAM probably have a similar scheme... not sure though.

Just Spoke with Adrian Flux - £375 with £25 excess = Happy Boy!!!!! On thing is now the misses wants to get insured on the car..... :headbang:

What god giveth with one hand..... lol

Woohoo. Renewal through from Chris Knott.

Last year was £520.

Ok, its not gone down with an extra years no claim but comes in at £551. Thats fully comp, 28, 6 year NCD, protected, driving since 1999, no accidents, no points, living in the suburbs of Hull. £350 excess.

A lot better than the quotes I was getting earlier in the month.

Misses is only 24 so a no go yet  Maybe next year.

It will cost me £1k to insure a 10-year-old Ferrari 360 F1 with £500 excess from Admiral (car on the driveway at night/annual mileage: 12k miles).

Mine was £1K last year (23, 2 yr NCB), all companies wanted a minimum of £1450 at the end of this month, including Elephant who insure it now, when I renew (will be 24, 3 yr NCB, obviously), but then I got a list of brokers to try.

Noel Dazely will be bringing it a fair bit below the £900 mark.
