Insurance Renewal Has Come...

Thanks for the input guys.

So I spoke to the this afternoon and they fed me some rubbish...

Best deal i could get out of them was...

£2027 with 1k excess (increased from £350)

"Tweaked" the policy by...
Removing my dad off the policy (both my parents were on it already dreamer :( )
Changing my job title to computer analyst (instead of computer engineer - this saved me over £200 alone!!! :o )

I'm going to call Chris to see what he can do for me.
Not sure about swift and their T&C.
Will also try Direct Line.

Not a happy bunny!

Feel really sorry to hear of so many members being ripped-offs by Insurers.

This must be the only occasion when it's an advantage to be old!

I pay £372.00 - fully comprehensive, for both me and my wife, protected no claims with a £250.00 excess - and that includes the premium for paying monthly. :D (Age 55, live out of town in the sticks in Somerset)

Only trouble is.........it's SwiftCover!

(Hope it doesn't get written-off - I may get given a Skoda back instead  )

Try giving Admiral a call. They are top of the z4 insurance poll on the forum at the moment. I'm 27 with 7 years no claims and paid £430 on my 3.0i around xmas time. They are particularly good if you have more than one car and use their multicar policy. I guess I'm lucky to live in Cornwall. No wonder there are so many uninsured cars on the road these days, 3k a year for insurance. Disgrace!

My renewal is up in August. Im 31, 8NCD (protected), 3 points (SP50), live in (wait for it!) Paisley :!: - paid £500 with ESURE last year.

I plan to take FULL advantage of this though - http://www.roadar.org.uk/members/benefits/insurance.asp - I passed last year, the "lessons" were free (only costing my fuel & a bottle of vine for my tutor when I passed). IAM probably have a similar scheme... not sure though.

Another warning about Swiftcover:

If you get banned in another country, you are NOT insured to drive in the UK.

The other item which is dubious (for those who lease their car):

You can not insure a car if the policyholder or their spouse, partner, parent or child is not registered keeper and legal owner.

Modifications:

We will not insure your car if it has been modified in anyway to enhance its performance.

Use your own repairer:

If the repair to your car is not carried out by our recommended repairer we may only pay the amount our recommended repairer would have charged

You're almost identical to me: 31, 8NCD protected, nil points (although my wife who's on as a second driver has 3 points SP50), live in Falkirk, paid £330 last year with Bell, just renewed with IAM Surety for £330 last week with a very low excess and 1,000 business miles included. Doing my IAM course last year certainly worked for me.

So just checked SwiftCover and it's come out on top. This is the best option...

£2204.67 + £300 excess.... Total = £2504.67
£2079.48 + £350 excess.... Total = £2429.48
£1813.14 + £400 excess.... Total = £2213.14
£1763.53 + £450 excess.... Total = £2213.53
£1720.16 + £500 excess.... Total = £2220.16
£1685.46 + £550 excess.... Total = £2235.46
£1617.36 + £600 excess.... Total = £2217.36
£1566.56 + £650 excess.... Total = £2216.56
£1525.59 + £700 excess.... Total = £2225.59
£1498.42 + £750 excess.... Total = £2248.42
£1474.90 + £800 excess.... Total = £2274.90
£1453.83 + £1000 excess.... Total = £2453.83
£1422.81 + £1300 excess.... Total = £2722.81

Seems like £1525.59 + £700 excess is the best option with Swift. What do you guys think?

Very tempting even with the T&C.

EDIT: This is just with myself on the policy. They wouldn't allow my mum to be added??

EDIT: changed the job to "Engineer, Scientist or Technician" and it drop to 1,354.66 (with the same £700 excess). Do you think I can put that since my official title is "Support Engineer"?

amazing that a job title can make such a difference

maybe their thinking is 'Support Engineer' has to travel lots and therefore higher risk :?

wouldnt allow another party to be added is just silly

Weird. Unless you are a motoring journalist, what ever does the job title make a difference. I guess another one of those "statistics" that they are so good in (ab)using.

What is the cheapest job title overall out of interest?

But changing it to the Engineer one dropped the price by around £170. :) I put down "business professional" initally.

When I added my mum as the 2nd driver it said it can't cover the younger driver?? Removed her and it gave me the quote.

i'm going to try and see if Elephant or Chris Knotts can match or at least get close to the £1,354.66 quote.

pvr, I've heard being a Teacher gets you the lowst quote. Swift don't seem to think so though @ £1,406.66 (with the same £700 excess).

I am 22, drive a 3.0si coupe and pay £885. Thats with Admiral!

where do you live and how many points do you have? Also what's your excess? Any other people on the policy?

I am 25 (24 on date of renewal :/)

I drive a 3.0i, 0 points, 0 accidents in last 3 years ( this is all admiral ask for ), and I live in Cornwall - my premium was around £700 if I remember correctly. Admiral were by far the cheapest for me, but the use the same underwriters as elephant - so I'm not sure you'll have much joy.

on Admiral I compared my address with a cornwall one and my address came in at over 2900 + 350 excess. Cornwall one... £945 + £350 excess. :headbang:

34 and pay £820 (£500 excess) from Swiftcover for a 2003 3.0si, thats with a Tracker and 6 yrs NCB (+3 speeding points)

It was £650 but had to update/change my policy as im having quite a bit of work on the house and have no access to the garage at present, so parking on the road - hence the £170 uplift.

Did you point thatgun at them to give you a good price??

Try putting a London postcode in to see what you get!

Paid something around £450 for the coupe when I bought it. 29yo, married, home-owner, software engineer, stored in garage, 3 points for an SP50, IAM pass 2 years ago and 7 yrs NCB living in Huntingdon. It's with the IAM's own (is actually Adelaide I think from memory). In my experience, if you do the IAM then they ask you what your lowest quite is and automatically knock £xxx off it depending on your circumstances.
Don't know if it's true, but I gather rag-top insurance is higher? Also the 3 points depends what it's for - if it's for most speeding offences it's ignored now by insurance companies. If it's 3 for a dangerous thing to have done then it's bound to drive up the insurance

Another + for Admiral here. £469 and by FAR cheaper than any other provider. Good price bearing in mind I live in Cardiff and not in some rural area. Have you got a quote from them yet ?
