Z4 2.5 Insurance renewal invite arrived in email today from Lancaster Insurance who I have been with for the last 2 years, last years premium was£125.72 their renewal invite this year was for £161.22. Thats for a limited mileage of 3k miles and Social, Domestic and Pleasure plus 1 named driver (Wife). Ages are 68 and 64. Checked out the Insurance comparison sites Confused.com and Compare the Market. Interestingly enough Lancaster came up on one for a premium of £125.80. SAGA who already insure my Z3 with came up with £132.73. I dare say if I had rung Lancaster I would have got the cheaper option instead of their inflated renewal price. I really couldn't be bothered to contact them and promply took out a new policy with SAGA to commence when my current Lancaster policey expires. Don't like being treated in the way Lancaster operate with their inflated renewals when exactly the same cover is available from them via a comparison site for pennies more than the previous year. Will see how SAGA perform when the Z3 renewal comes up may be worth looking to put both cars on their multi car policy next time around.

That is frustrating, but at the same time it's all part of the game.
I've learned from experience when it comes to making a claim sometime cheaper isn't always better.... but when you're being charged an increase for no reason as a returning customer it does sting a little; personally i'd just swallow the pride and give them a call, that is if you're pleased with the service they have given so far. Otherwise i hope the new insurer turns out to be worth the saving

I,too, took out a Saga policy this year. It’s a sign of getting on a bit! However, I don’t think Lancaster are behaving differently to any other insurer, trying to tap into its captive customers.

I was with Saga for the last few years on both cars, switched to direct line and insured both cars for the cost that Saga wanted for just the zed - £500 for the zed but £204 with direct line

Don’t forget to call Lancaster to cancel your auto-renewal - you can tell them why at the same time :P

Although I’m not sure why this is news to anyone who’s bought insurance this century :?

I did notice that Lancaster will automatically lapse the exhisting policy if they do not hear from me but do make sure your company do the same if you decide to take a better deal out with another company, there are a lot out there that renew automatically, I never sign up with any of them to do this. Have checked with Chris Knott a couple of times as they are on this Forum but they never come close to what I can get elsewhere.

Wow, (£500) that’s a lot. For an over-50 living outside London with NCB, <£200 seems to be the going rate for a Z4. Lower than that, there’s not much point shopping around just to save the price of half a tank of petrol. I am sure Saga is just as bad as the others in terms of exploiting customers on renewal.

Yep thats was pretty poor Saga, I had two cars with them and had been there for 3 years, guess they will take advantage like anyone else, the shock on the voice when I took the second car away, but you have our fixed price plan and it went down £7 this year, yes and it still £70 more than direct line and my zed 4 was £300 cheaper.

Worse thing the zed was on 15000 miles last year and when I took it down to 5000 they offered a massive saving of £25 on a £500 policy (Had zero no claims at that point due to company car).

The wonder why people don't stay

Avviva when I had the Porsche and Corsa on a multicar hiked my premium. They came up best, and cheaper by far than renewal, on comparison site so I took the policy out online. Avviva were perfectly happy with this, even putting up an info box to make sure dates were correct as already insured with them. You could have simply taken the Lancaster policy out online.

I ended up doing this with the e90. Renewal came in quite high... then went on a comparison site and the same company was cheaper (by quite a lot). So I chose not to renew automatically, but went with the same company anyway. Quite stupid really

I had the same thing with Admiral and told them I found a cheaper quute on a comparison site and he said "oh that's actually good, we can do something about that". Knocked a further £20 off the comparison quote for me, got my partners car (R59 Mini Cooper S) on which was half of her previous years premium (as well as discounting mine a bit more) and added the house on aswell! About £450 for both cars and the house! I felt like Derren Brown.

Like @kis I have previously renewed with the same company for cheaper than their renewal invite by using their policy comming up on a comparison site. This year I just felt better going elsewhere rather than line their pockets, just think most companies operate in this unethical way when it comes to renewals, its not everyone who checks for better deals and they know that.
Added bonus using Go Compare to get the Saga policy is I got the current offer of refunding any Excess should I have a claim during the policy period.

I have an agreed value policy for the E86 , as run of the mill policies, although cheaper would give a market value and at the time was about £4500 , which is top notch E85 money :poke: . So for the agreed value and 3k miles PA with Aplan through the BMW Club, I pay £200. Yes, the run of the mill stuff came in at £130 or so, but for the £70 I can expect an agreed pay out should the worst happen. Its also only got 2 years NCD as we have the no claims attached to the daily runabouts.

I seem to get an inflated price every time when renewal is due - it was Churchill for my 3 Series this year. I got a great price for that from Saga this April.

They weren't so keen on my MC though. But then it's probably not a typical Saga sort of car, especially with a few modifications! Adrian Flux hiked that renewal in June, but Chris Knott were competitive this time. I got a better price from them this year than they charged for my previous 3.0Si in 2018. :?

This is exactly what I am doing this time round with my E86 policy. I used A1 with my Tr6 on an agreed valuation policy. The market value that is applied to these cars is very low, not surprised so many are written off.

I use Hastings Direct and have for few years, the price always goes up. I ring them every time and complain and they always drop the price by quite a lot.
