insurance question

I have two cars - sold my third one 2 years ago but have retained the no claim bonus on that car until I find another third car - as you know you can retain the no claim bonus for up to 2 years - the two years expires on 26th Feb 2019 - my cunning plan is to use the no claim bonus accrued and insure one of my current cars from 25th Feb - the insurance on this car is due on 1 March so for a few days technically I will have 2 insurances on the same car - the point of all this is that I can then retain this no claim bonus for a further 2 years - plain as mud lol

question is can I do this legitimately or do I need to formally cancel the insurance the few days before it expires ?

Guessing you don’t have a multi car policy. If you do the ncd on the third car is taken from the other car the policy holder has.

I’m not sure if you can really double insure a car. I contemplated it when messing around with flippers, but luckily a multi car policy with admiral works out easier and cheaper.

Dual insurance can cause problems, especially now they all access the same database! Why not cancel the policy that expires on 1 March effective from 25 Feb and use the "spare" NCD on a new policy from that date?

Then again I wouldn't get too hung up on keeping the 3rd NCD, unless you expect to get a 3rd car in the forseeable future. I only had 1 NCD when I got a daily to go with my 1st Z4, but found an insurer (Allianz IIRC) who would match my NCD.

I thought you could only retain NCB for 12 months?

Definitely 2 years - I insured my old Z4 with Saga ( stop laughing - yes I am an old git ) stupidly sold it 26th Feb 2017 - have now insured my current daily driver wef 25th Feb 2019 using the NCB accrued from the old Z4 :D
