Insurance price rises

Got my renewal today...... Tesco (last year it was £700).....nothings changed risk wise , just another claim free year , no points, accidents or claims ...£989.00 this year please
Now this is for a 61 yr old retired man , no other driver , clean license and claim free, no commuting and 6000 miles a year oh yea and I live in a London suburb
Go Compare £360 with Esure.....with a lower excess......guess where I wont be shopping again :)

I;ve never known an insurer offer me a better deal on renewal... you have to shop around. Once, LV put my price up by £300... went on a comparison site and the cheapest bidder was.....LV at £200 less than I was paying... set up the new policy and that was that.

New business is a different part of the business, with different targets to retaining business.... you need to shop around....

It's called customer apathy and is one of the scams run by insurance companies - they make money on customers that simply reinsure instead of seeking new policies.
How the insurance companies get away with loading policies where they want with perceived risk then equalise policy costs for male and female drivers despite different risks is beyond me - ever felt like the fish in a barrel? :x

i was actually able to get my renewal down this year by telling them a porkie and saying that they were beaten by another competitor.... they price matched (my quoted price, i didnt down play it too much) and saved me about £50 and the inconvenience of switching

Sometimes when trying that one envy I've been asked to send them proof (can't remember who it was now). They wanted me to save the confused search results and send them.
This year I've been surprised - with IAM Surety for the Z4 the renewal was higher than I expected, I didn't even price match them - just said I was disappointed because I'd expected it to come it around £100 cheaper. The bloke said ok, do you mind holding for a minute, came back on the line and said the new premium is £100 cheaper... job done, here's my credit card details!
Likewise just done the insurance for the missus and for the first time ever that I can remember, I've been quoted less as the renewal price than any of the likes of confused or the helpful meerkats could come up with. Was a bit of a surprise!

I've got the cars and the house and travel with saga - at each renewal the "Hey youve got all my insurance business " invariably makes them go away and sharpen their pencil ! On the down side you have to have reached codger status! :D
