Insurance NCB proof

I just took out a new insurance policy on another car. Everything was done online, as is usual these days.
I have not been asked to provide proof of my No Claims Bonus. I have it on an email from the previous insurer.

Then I started thinking; I haven't been asked for NCB proof on any new insurance for years, nor has my wife.

So I'm wondering; do insurers have access to NCB details via the insurance database nowadays?

The last two years I have never been asked so I did ask in October on my last renewal and was told it’s all on record now, and I can see here you have more than nine years NCB

I think they risk assess new business - so if there is something in your application that makes a warning bell go off they will ask for the proof.

I thought that was what an insurance proposal was...a risk assessment! :?

There is an insurance database so I suppose there's a paper trail of policies and claims.

I get the feeling NCB is becoming less relevant. Companies all seem to be willing to match existing NCB when you buy a second car rather than it having to be earned. If you claim they hike the base premium up to claw money out of the protected NCB bunch.
