Insurance hike ...

£1.2 to £6k!!!!

Sounds like he’s had a bump or a conviction?

Not necessarily, my son has a 140 since new and that doubled in premium. My X5 doubled as did the Porsche for no reason. They claim the cost of repairs and a new algorithm for the hikes.

In the end, my premiums still went from £2k for the 6 cars to £3.6k, down from the £4.2k asked. Not sure what else I can do except taking a few cars out of the multicar insurance and put them elsewhere

That’s scary and especially so when the cars are already owned. They’ve got you over a barrel
Either sell the car at an undervalued price or pay a high premium.

It is scandalous yes. My son has 11 years no claim. When we added the Z4 with no no claim, as it was an additional car, it was £300 for me to be insured and £3600 to add my son.

He is currently insured on the Z for next to nothing, so what are the companies doing?

Daft thing is how similar people in age, where they live and insurance history the premiums can differ by so much. Mine went up 70 quid but chatting to a chap on Facebook, same car, similar age to me and insurance history and living in the West Mids and his renewal has doubled. Only difference is I'm retired which would reduce my premium slightly.

I know there are many individual variables that can affect the premium but it seems how they are calculated doesn't add up.

Retired = not driving thro rush hour traffic 2x every day!

Unsure how much difference it would make :?

Having said that had to drive into town last Monday at 8am and don't miss that one bit :)

No change in my premium this year as I’m with SAGA and locked in for 3 years at £240pa for my M40i almost 2 years ago. Fully comp - legal cover - £100 excess - protected NCD - 8000 miles per year - SDP - same European cover.

My wife’s 22 plate X2 MESH 2.5e £190pa on same 3 year deal. Same cover level plus business miles as well!

Cant fault SAGA and you can talk to someone quickly if needed as well as manage online. Glad I locked in the price now :)

My motorcycle renewal came through yesterday. Down from £206.07 last year to £195.26 this year.

Ah Saga, turn 60 in a week or so, they quote from 55 iirc, never had a quote from them that was less than 3 times the best quote elsewhere.
Perhaps I’m just too young.

Thats one hell of a deal.

Will have to include them in my forthcoming search

My motorcycle insurance (Ducati Hypermotard) as recently increased from £271 to £325 whereas my car insurance is reducing from £331 down to £245 due to a change of car (a remapped E89 20i to a Boxster S) which quite surprised me.

Definitely worth considering.

Renewal on my E90 330i in April with Saga was only £245 with protected NCD and Legal Expenses, which seemed a bargain given that insurance here in the South East tends to cost more.

Shame my Z4 has some modifications which they didn't like!

The cheapest quote for my first year with the Z4 was with Saga much to my annoyance as I'm not yet 50. But the renewal the following year was ridiculous, which seems to be their MO.

I'm not sure it is to be fair.

I've had my 3 Series with them for three years now and that hasn't been my experience - yet.

Funnily enough cheapest insurance I could get was with BMW insurance. Still 1k a year.
If my address was 30 mins away, it would drop to £450.
London premium is a killer due to theft and vandals. :(
