Insurance for mods - phew

Got the new wheels and near future eibach swap updated on the ins policy, only £20 hike and half of that was the flat fee for policy update, was fearing the worst as thought there was going to be a default modder charge, but only minor premium change - total shocker but in a good way :)

Admiral multicar policy

Just ditched my multicar policy.

They charge you for mods but don't actually cover them, but what REALLY upset me, was that they charge you extra for optional extras, so I didn't renew with them.

Not necessarily of you talk to them. I went through all the extras in my cars and they are all covered (factory ordered ones).

Charged me:

Heated seats 20
Parking sensors 20
Satnav 20

Then there is my discovery

Towbar 20
Headrest screens 20

Just annoys me!!

If that's true that is shocking - but my policy is an old one and haven't done any mods, so haven't seen any ill effects, my premium has gone down over the years too so haven't felt the need to look elsewhere...

But will be shopping around next renewal cycle just in case...

Ps who did you end up with ?

You have to call them every time. Factory fitted extras (I have just about every single one on mine) did not add anything to it. I also got a loyalty discount which you only get when you call them as well - and if you ask for it.

Took my M down to £190 this year.

Adrian Flux beat Admiral for me by a couple of hundred, cover every single mod at cost to return to modified not to stock...and best of all, will cover a supercharger for an extra charge of £0.00

Can confirm the above to be correct. Depending which Tele sales person yet get depends if they tell you. When I got my quote they just gave me a price. I accepted and when the paperwork turned up it was for my old non ///M (private plate meant their system got confused).

Anyway went through all the details and they wanted to charge extra for pdc and heated seat. I told them not a chance as their original quote was accepted which stated was for the ///M.

No extra charge for my CSL's and strut brace.

Where's the logic :?

That is quite odd, the only extra on my policy prior was the eom strut brace which I would expect to be extra.
Curious about Adrian flux, will need to investigate ...

You do not have to declare factory options, I've never met one insurer who said you do or would charge for them!

Admiral does and Churchill before that did as well. It says something like "all additions including factory fitted options"

Adrian Flux did not work at all for me.

Worked for me. No extra for additional mods once its on a "modified" policy.

With my old Zed:
Lowered - £0 extra
Custom wheels - £0 extra
Etc
Etc

My new zed is modded so just carried over with £100 more for the upgrade from a 3.0i

Admiral said nothing of the sort to me.. I told them I had factory fitted options they cared not..

From their policy book:

The Motor Policy does not cover any non standard parts (Modifications). Manufacturers optional extras are only covered if they have been declared and we have agreed to cover them. See also Extra Conditions (endorsement 11). We can offer a Modifications Cover product subject to certain underwriting criteria. See ‘Guide to your Admiral Cover’ Section 1 (3) Section 2 (3).

Increasingly insurance companies are listing everything over the base model as additions for the purpose of determining the premium.
When the Admiral tried to screw me, I jumped ship!

Very interesting, I shall have to start recording my calls to them. I already had a nasty conversation with them about something their sales people told me about private plate switching.

I've just been through all 3 documents that are available to me via my multi-car policy (online) and the only thing I can find is in the Motor Policy Schedule & Motor Proposal Confirmation:

Modifications: None (including, anything which changes the maker's standard specification or alters its performance, including
cosmetic changes such as alloy wheels, body kits, or any non-standard parts. If in doubt, please call Admiral
Customer Services Department)

Modifications:
(including, anything which changes the maker’s standard specification or alters its performance, including cosmetic changes such as alloy wheels, body kits, or any non-standard parts. If in doubt,
please call Admiral Customer Services Department )

Just seen the line you've quoted PVR in the "guide to your cover" document which is generic

Bloody insurance companies, its a full time job keeping up with this nonsense. :headbang:
