Insurance for mid 20s - best quoting?

I know there are loads of threads on insurance but many of you didn't actually mention their premium but just said how much you've saved!

I'm 25. 1 year NCB. Prior premium was £1800 with Admiral (!), but I'm sure I could get better now as I didn't have NCB when I took this policy and have a clean licence.

What are the best quotes those of you of similar age/NCB have had?

Hi Alex

This is very subjective and no 2 quotes will be the same - even if your in the same house - its all about the detail!!

-have you added any addition drivers on? Do they drive other cars? Their occupation?
-what occupation did you specify?
-what mileage?
-any mods?
-car value?
-voluntary excess
-postcode?
-where is it kept?

Best thing is to run a quote through elephant and then change a few variables and see how the quote comes out - its a nice site which refreshes quick and you can soon determine if adding 1,2 or even 3 drivers on will be good for you - have a fiddle with the options as well....

BTW im in central london, 29, 7 years protected NCD, 06 3.0si parked in reserved parking - £1100

I agree. Elephant definitely the best. Check out martin lewis moneysavingexpert.com too. There's tips on there that tell you which variables to change and to what. Make sure you're not telling lies though. Adding a female to the policy is always good, I added my girlfriend to my policy and saved a couple of hundred (was even cheaper if i added my mum).

I'm in Edinburgh 25, 2 yrs ncb, private parking and I only pay 600 for the full year. I only do 4k per year though which brings it down significantly

Don't forget the Forum's own Insurance :D

Age=25 and 600 a year!!! I was gonna say!!!! But the 4k a year explains it all

This website is good for checking how riskey your postcode is: http://www.motorcarinsuranceuk.co.uk/post-code-ratings.php

Bell or/and Admiral are always cheapest for me, had my M3 with them for a year and now the Z4M for 2 years, nobody ever seems to come close...

27, 4 years NCB, £250 Excess, medium postcode...£785 FC

Elephant are always horrendous for me...

Surprised Elephant are so different to Bell and/or admiral - aren't they all the same company behind the scenes ?

Yup, but they cater for different risk profiles...Bell is aimed more at low / no NCB I think? I like Bells website too as you can tweak the policy with/without extras etc. Admiral were cheaper than Bell this year though. There are only 4-5 big insurers out there, everything is a brand for one of them

26, 4y NCB, Oxford, £660 with £300 excess

Privilege insurance...

I'm also 27 with 4yrs NCB, my renewal is next week ... my best quote so far is £790 with Admiral so very similar to your price. The only issue is when I add the option to protect my NCB it jumps up to just under £1k, ouch!

Hmm to protect, or not protect.

Bell for me £850 (350xs) with 1 years NCB in London. I'd add that the ridedrive with adrian flux deal is worth checking out. I'm taking it in the new year and my quote came down to 650 with 250 xs for next year. Seeing as the course gives you a chance to really see what the car can do and it saves you money I think it's a must! http://www.ridedrive.co.uk/shop-high-performance.htm

My renewal from Elephant just came through and it's went up £20 to £672 :(
Based on me being 28, 9 NCB, 6 points (3 coming off next year)
Wife, 32, 3 points, 5NCB
Good post code
Annual miles of 10k
£250 excess (raising changed nothing)

:-(

Elephant DO NOT cover any factory fitted options but need to know about them to load the premium, only an issue if car is written off obviously or stolen
