Insurance, e89 and e86

OK so after some pretty frightening insurance quotes on my planned new purchase (new Z4 sdrive 30i) I'm widening my options to include the e86 (previous/coupe), the insurance is mad, but the car is cheaper to balance things out. I can get the coupe for £10K+ less than an e89 (used) however having had a 2004 e85, I'm reluctant to go back to rock hard suspension. Question is, the coupe SE and coupe Sport, any difference in suspension between them, and more particularly, any difference to my old 3.0 se e85 roadster? I sold the 3.0 se for a number of reasons, one being my spine needed work after driving on english roads!

FYI the insurance madness is because I live in Manchester, taking a quote for my old address in Sheffield on the e89 sdrive 30i was £700pa, its £1600 here!

didnt they change the suspension on the facelift to be more compliant ??

In any case a change of tyres can transform the ride :D

Insurance prices have increased as a whole in the past year. I was with Elephant initally and their quote this year increased by over 80% (£1600 > £2950). I didn't stay with them.

I think the suspension will be the same, but as gannet suggests new tyres.

But if you're looking to spend circa £30k for a car then what's another £600-700?

Well the e89 would be contract hire.. which makes it affordable and all costs for running other than insurance are wrapped into one lower payment, and I get to hand it back in a few years when I've had my fun, petrol prices are likely mad and diesel or electric is the way to go lol... I figure a greater risk long term is purchase of any fuel guzzler, might be cheaper than the e89 now, but prices are at risk if fuel costs go up (which they constantly are). Its the usual balance thing. Trying to make sure expenditure now is reasonable, and that long term risk/benefit is maintained. (doh, manager speak coming out now lol)
