Insurance and tracker device

If it were me I wouldn't want the car back anyway after some thieving scrote had been in it farting on the seat etc.

If my car had been nicked, I'm sure my first thoughts wouldn't be whether the thief had farted while he was driving it! :D

They wouldn't be my first thoughts but certainly would be when I got it back. :(

Its not uncommon for the tracker unit to fail and a new unit to be fitted because its easier to fit a new one than try to find where the old one has been hidden.

So what do Tracker do to let an owner know before their car is stolen? Next time I take my Z3MC out I think I'll do another roll test to see if Tracker call me.

Tracker probably do nothing. They don't have the best reputation...

I always thought that Tracker only track the car after you ring them and ask them to.

I'm told i have a tracker fitted to my car but i let the subscription lapse and i've no idea if it works.

I insured with LV. cheapest quote for the 'M'. I then phoned them and asked if they'd multicar for my Jag. They agreed to mirror the full 9+ years no claims. Got the two cars fully comp for about £700 all in including business use on the Jag. . Pretty good for a Liverpool postcode. :)

Carol, yellow cars have the lowest incidence of being stolen. Apparently, scrotes lack the self-confidence needed to drive them. :P

if it has any relevance to anyone im 23 and have 6 years NCB and have had an admiral multicar policy for 2 years now. the first year of my multicar my //M was £846 and now when i just renewed in January it was only £530 thats with 7k miles and NCB protected aswell. Pretty pleased with that and they were the most competitive by far.

just to let others know aswell, its cheaper to have your car parked on your drive or on the street than it is to say its in the garage...strange i know. but i think they have cottoned on to everyone thinking that it would be cheaper to say its in a garage so bumped the price up. so by selecting street or garage, see how much cheaper it comes out at. weather it is left on the street or drive is up to you though.
other hints like add other drivers like parents/ family etc does also make a difference as everyone knows

try having a go on their website and enter in all your info as you normally would, then try changing where it is kept overnight and see if it makes it cheaper for you. mine did by about £200

Only £100 and no tracker needed. Got to be a result?

Well staying with Admiral I don't need a tracker. And yes £100 is not to be sniffed at at all. I think I was hoping for the bigger savings others quote on here. Also I didn't like the manner of the phone operator...

Just don't tell them about your strut brace - they wouldn't cover me with one fitted so I take out the centre section between trackdays

They know about it and covered me for not much extra.

On the Tracker issue, I agree with others, I don't think i would want the car back if it was stolen, but if I did, there are much better systems available, (like Navtrak/Cobratrak5 for example) but none of them are cheap.

Re: tracker
When I told some insurance companies it has a tracker it went up

This just gets more confusing as time goes on...
Someone I know mentioned to me I may already have one on the car that can be activated (that I obviously don't know about). Will call Tracker tomorrow just out of interest.

What you need to check is whether the high cost of a tracker subscription is worth it. When I checked the other day it was £450 for the lifetime of the car or something like £120 a year.

I had a tracker in my Boxster for first year and insured with LV who were consistently cheapest but won't insure many cars without a tracker. The next year it was far cheaper to insure with a company who don't insist on tracker and not renew the tracker subscription.

Not all comparison sites are equal either! The meercat one was £20+ dearer in quote for Saga (wrinklies insurance!) than moneysupermarket. I eventually went with Saga via phone following the online quote as they offered £20 off if you ask for a house insurance quote.

They are the only insurance company I know who include fully comprehensive EU insurance for a full year which is amazing. On the other hand you can't stay abroad in EU all year without license problems etc. but certainly can bob back and forward a few times. That's what I got the Z4 for after all!

Just do it all on comparison websites. You only have to put your details in once and they will search for the best quotes.

Definitely, as reduced mine to just over £330 for class 1 business use, very happy.

Get quotes on comparison sites, find the best then go to a cash back website.

I got my Z insured for 250£ and have £30 cashback due :)

Used The Meerkat this morning and am Moving from Flux to Admiral - difference in price between quotes 600 pounds!

Price went down by 5 pounds when I added the carbon grilles to the policy :? - slightly bizarrely the policy has come through from Diamond ... Especially for Girls - oh well must be the silver lining of the EU change on Car Insurance.

I've just been told by LV who previously told me when my renewal is up in May I would have to have a tracker fitted to my 3.0si that now they have reviewed the whole tracker situation over the last 6 months and I may not have to have a tracker fitted at all :D they must be loosing a lot of bussiness

So my Multicar insurance is coming up for renewal soon and I thought I'd spend this evening calling around a few places to get a more competitive quote. It seems both Direct line and Sainsburys won't touch the ///M without a tracker device...so looks like I am staying with Admiral. But when I bought the ///M last year I am sure no one asked me this. Has something changed?
Also Admiral can't do better than 365 pounds for my 2004 VW Polo 1.2 (and my 10+ y NCB). Its half what they are quoting for ///M. Is this right?
I dislike sorting out all this sort of stuff a lot.

how have you allocated the ncb? I pay more for a clio than a zed but use my ncb on the zed. i'm with admiral, they're the cheapest by a fair margin for me.

Admiral matched my ncb.
