Insurance and tracker device

Thank you for your input all. So it seems I don't have a tracker device and it's about £500 to install and have for a year. Called Classicline and their quote only saves me £100 total for both cars as compared to Admiral.

Only £100 and no tracker needed. Got to be a result?

Well staying with Admiral I don't need a tracker. And yes £100 is not to be sniffed at at all. I think I was hoping for the bigger savings others quote on here. Also I didn't like the manner of the phone operator...

I did a quote earlier.

26 year old, 12k miles a year SDCP, 7yrs NCD, driving for 9 years etc. Best price was £595 a year. With tracker made it more expensive, and protecting my NCD made it cheaper!!!

Just no logic in it! Admiral came in third cheapest at about £615!

I'm with Admiral, got a multicar policy for 3 cars now inc. the M. The M was £950 but was for 10.5 months to add it to my existing policy. So would work out about £1100 if for 12 months. Comparison sites were throwing up 3 quotes around £1150, rest were £1400 plus.
But I'm 23, driving for 6yrs, no NCB to use on this car. No accidents/points. 5k miles per year.

It was cheaper to say 5k miles per year compared to 4k miles
Also cheaper with no tracker
I forget exactly but over £60 cheaper to park on road rather than driveway

I don't get it at all!

When I renewed my multicar for 2 cars I got cheaper quotes individually elsewhere but Admiral matched them.

Haven't really read through ALL the posts so apologies if its been mentioned already... GoCompare and Compare the Market are your friends. Saved me a lot of time and between the 2 of them cover 90%ish of the market.

Got me a nice quote from More Than, 290 fully comp. 10yrsNCB 30yrs of age. Hope it helps.

I'm wondering if this business of the tracker being more expensive is due to recovering and repairing the car, plus the admin of disposing of it etc making it more expensive than simply waiting the defined time and paying out (where a lot of people accept the first offer rather than negotiating for the correct value)

Anyone in the industry care to comment?

There is a probably a hefty fee to pay Plod for recovering the car I suspect.

Two companies to try Ruby:

A-Plan who I'm insured with &

REIS who are competitive & give 4 free track days but a max of 7k miles pa

Talking of Trackers; when I bought my silver Z3MC it was already registered with Tracker, so I opted to take out a lifetime subscription, since I intended to keep the car. When I got the renewal subscription from Tracker, they'd got the car recorded as a Black Audi TT! So they corrected the paperwork! :headbang:

A few years later, the car suffered a bearing shell failure at The Ring and so I had to have the car repatriated to the UK on a transporter. A car fitted with a Tracker is supposed to send a signal to Tracker's HQ if it is moved more than 2 metres without the ignition switched on. I never got a call from Tracker to inform me that my car had been moved by some 500+ miles. :headbang:

Once the car had had a new engine fitted, I parked the car on a hillside and I drove the car a distance of 50metres without the key in the ignition in a location that would give an excellent signal to Tracker. Again no call from Tracker. :headbang:

I reached the conclusion that my car didn't actually have a Tracker device fitted, although it was registered with Tracker and that both I and the original owner had paid subscriptions to Tracker. :headbang:

I contacted Tracker about this and they eventually sent out a fitter who I watched install a new Tracker device to my car! Who are the thieves making money out of motorists??? Unf***ingbelievable!

Its not uncommon for the tracker unit to fail and a new unit to be fitted because its easier to fit a new one than try to find where the old one has been hidden.

So what do Tracker do to let an owner know before their car is stolen? Next time I take my Z3MC out I think I'll do another roll test to see if Tracker call me.

I thought before you renewed a subscription they would test it still worked? Or did you have to pay for that

I took out my "lifetime" subscription when the car was 15 months old back in 2003. Once they'd taken my money they couldn't give a ****. They don't ever automatically test afterwards.

It seems that the system is completely passive so it's only after the car's been stolen that you find out whether the Tracker device is working. The system is completely upsides down.

If it were me I wouldn't want the car back anyway after some thieving scrote had been in it farting on the seat etc.

If my car had been nicked, I'm sure my first thoughts wouldn't be whether the thief had farted while he was driving it! :D
