Insurance and tracker device

So my Multicar insurance is coming up for renewal soon and I thought I'd spend this evening calling around a few places to get a more competitive quote. It seems both Direct line and Sainsburys won't touch the ///M without a tracker device...so looks like I am staying with Admiral. But when I bought the ///M last year I am sure no one asked me this. Has something changed?
Also Admiral can't do better than 365 pounds for my 2004 VW Polo 1.2 (and my 10+ y NCB). Its half what they are quoting for ///M. Is this right?
I dislike sorting out all this sort of stuff a lot.

Just my personal experience with admiral, but you really need to speak to the right person.

When getting prices for both my previous car (Smart Brabus Fortwo) and my Zed, I ended up having to speak to a manager. Needless to say, one year and 6 months later, I paid less for my Zed than they originally quoted me for my Brab.

Admiral quoted me more if I said I had a tracker fitted.

I am currently with them, but mine is out in a month so need to look into this sort of stuff!

im with admiral at the moment on their multi car policy. someone rang me up trying to sell me a policy. in the end he saved me £200 on my Z4 plus ill have 5 months worth of insurance on my run about astra when its current insurance finishes in november in that price!

My wife swears by Sheila's wheels....worth a try

I've just gone back to Sheila's Wheels. They trounced my Sainsbury's renewal by about £150!

I'm sure I called them last year when I bought my Zed but there was a reason I didn't go for them. Can't remember why. I'm tired of getting quotes, its boring.

Just do it all on comparison websites. You only have to put your details in once and they will search for the best quotes.

Definitely, as reduced mine to just over £330 for class 1 business use, very happy.

In my experience Admiral are good for the first year and then less competitive thereafter. I've just split my multi-car. The M is now with Classicline at £400 for 5k miles per annum and the Honda I've left with Admiral. Overall that saved me money over a multi-car with Admiral.

Plenty on here use Classicline Ruby. Give them a try

its not straightforward with multicar then checking with dad on is cheaper etc.. or I am doing something wrong. I prefer the old fashioned way of talking to someone.

Thanks for the tip OG. Yet another call though. I wish I could employ someone to do this for me its the dullest way to spend an evening ever.

Re: tracker
When I told some insurance companies it has a tracker it went up

You cant do multicar on comparison sites you have to ring admiral

But on the meerkats you can add and remove a named driver with one click to see if it changes you quote

This just gets more confusing as time goes on...
Someone I know mentioned to me I may already have one on the car that can be activated (that I obviously don't know about). Will call Tracker tomorrow just out of interest.

They will confirm, just need the last 7 digits of the vin number

i just saved the think end of £600 moving from Admiral to More than (royal and sun alliance). 3 car policy with my 20 year old daughter on my wife's IQ2, my 35i and the 525 F11.

started the process of with Compare the market. they have a very useful front end to put the info in and you can go back and change details again and again making it easy to check what is making changes.

I can't recommend it highly enough!

I found it worked out cheaper to not do multicar, split up the quotes and get more chance of quidco cash back etc...

Swift Cover worked out cheapest for my M with £38 back through quidco... Sounds like faff, but was actually pretty easy..

Another vote for ClassicLine here. I have both my Z3MC and Z4MC with them, they allow all my mods to both cars and give me trackday cover as well. Not the cheapest, but they seem to understand what enthusiasts need.

Remember the real crunch can come if you ever need to make a claim, read policy very carefully especially for the conditions on options fitted and mods as well as tracker. Insurance companies these days look for any reason not to pay out if significant claim.

Cheapest policy may be ruinous in the long run.
