Insurance and non-run flat tyres

I wondered that, the garage I bought it from replaced the rear tyres for the mot but have now closed due the covid issues so I can't talk to them.

If you want to get some input from people on here why not start your own thread on the "Newbies section of the forum and if you include a photo or two of your car I expect someone will be able to identify what wheels you have, and possibly what size tyres they should have on them.

Then Jason's original thread won't be heading way off-topic!

Just thought I'd give you an update - finally got through to Hastings (understandable because of everyone's changes to their work) - had a chat via email - same size but changing from run flat only needs a 'note on file' no cost and all confirmed by email

In this quarantined state, I've washed and waxed the zed (and the X3) and checked the tyres.

Zed had new Potenzas fitted to the front by the dealer when I picked her up in November, the rears are beginning to look like the love children of Kojak, still just about legal though.

Looking at various tyre shops non-rft are cheaper but Nationwide says on their website that changing from RF to non-RF can have insurance implications. I can't get through to Hastings for a definite answer, but has anyone done anything similar (identical size, profile and rating)?

Whatever you do get rid of the potenzas, they are made from teflon is you ask me, dont stick at all.

My dealer bangs on about tyres for BMW's being "star marked" what's that all about I wonder?
The Michelins on the M40i must be suitably marked?

With main dealers "star marked" is probably pronounced "ker-ching"

BMW Star marked is especially relevant to all wheel drive / xdrive BMWs.

Amongst other things it assures that the rolling radius of the tyres is specifically optimised to match even with asymetric layouts.

There are sometimes other changes to the carcass and compound to be 'tuned' to BMW's requirements..

Pedantically they were right..technically two cosmetically and nominally dimensionally similar tyres from the same manufacturer could have significant structural / performance differences..

We had it on aircraft where two tyres apparently identical ..one got stucked in the wheel well as it had a very slightly different size.. :thumbsdown:
