Insulating doors?

I'm considering putting insulation/sound deadening in the doors of my 2003 Z4. They are terribly "tinny" sounding when I shut them and I'm sure a lot of road noise comes though that way.

I have heard "rumors" that the face-lift and later Z4s had insulation/sound deadening in the doors. Is this true?

Has anyone added insulation/sound deadening to their doors?

What did you use? I was going to use dynamat (or equivalent) tiles.

Thanks,
Chris

Back in the days of z4um.com a few members insulate the doors to reduce the metal sound when closing the doors. I think it was a sort of dynamat.

i imagine the stuff used by car audio enthusiasts will work dynamat or similar, i have the dreaded door leak (avoiding parking down hill at the moment) so will be doing this mod at the same time. :D

Hi, just remember if you are going to look at doing this, unhook the battery, I forgot & had to have the fault reset :headbang:
So non tinny doors, but airbag light on....Until Indy reset.
:D

Thanks for the tip dave, I bought one of those kits for the laptop for £30 so can reset it now but it is still a pain in the ass clearing the fault and finding the right module. I think I might go for the LED door mod too while I am at it....

Possible materials mentioned here (amongst others by myselves ) be sure to buy enough of the stuff: if you are working with 50x25 cm sheets you can easily "loose" two in each door. While your at it: you may as well remove the A pillars plastic and add insulating materilas there as well ... Add another 1,5 sheet ...
