Instead of cupholder?

Is there anything, perhaps more useful to put in place of my cupholder beneath the air vent? Mine is broken and I'm either going to replace it with a new one, or put something else in as I don't really use cupholders.

Mines broken too... been fixed twice now but they really aren't very good so be interested if anyone has any ideas!?

I was thinking a phone holder may be a good idea... could permanently attach one to the blanking plate you get if you don't have a cup holder!?

Yes I'm tempted by that as well, but I'd prefer to put it nearer the centre of the car so anyone in the passenger's seat can also reach for the phone or alter sat navving whilst I drive.

Been thinking about this. There’s a company that do a digital gauge in the air vent but means hacking up you air vent. Would be better to modify the blanking plate where the cup holder is/should be and have it there. The one they do is plugged into the obd port and with an extra cable with an extra female port it can still be used for diagnostics. They are expensive though but with a bit of research and can do spirit I reckon you could sort it.
The company is

Seems silly they would hack your air vent when there’s a blank plate right beneath it. Seems mad to me they haven’t done it as the product they sell has been out for years!!

That looks interesting. But I see your point - it would make a lot more sense to put it where the cupholder is. But then I suppose not every model has that option? I don't know.

Very interesting but pretty expensive... looking at the size of it I would imagine it's relatively easy to position it in the cup holder rather than the vent!

But that's a lot to spend on a toy to show you standard OBD data... as a boost gauge it's pretty cool, if only S/C kits were readily available and cheap for the 3.0si!

The problem isn’t fitting is that it’s not rectangular and the ones for BMW’s mostly aren’t.

S/c for 3.0si. Readily available yes! Cheap no!

I can check to make sure on the screen size but might be bit different size than a flush fill to the cup holder. And this gauge you can buy pre installed or not so you most certainly have the option to diy it on your own to take place of the cup holder.

Oh yes thanks for the link. I'm not sure I'm keen on a digital gauge for the cupholder though. Looks nice in yours but not sure how useful it'd be for me.
