Installing BM Technic Software V1 – no on-line authentication

Usual caveats, it all worked for me but I can't guarantee that it will work for you. I have re-installed a number of times to make sure its repeatable and not just good luck. If it goes wrong for you then please dont hold me responsible, but take SPECIAL care when modifing the Registry.

This ‘How To’ is based on a clean windows installation using Windows 7 SP1 32 bit.

1 Install Windows 7 SP1 32 bit on a clean hard disk drive.
2 Make sure Windows Update is on and download and install essential updates. Might be an idea to leave computer running for a couple of days for all the update to download and install.
3 Configure desktop to your preferences, including setting up your preferred browser.
4 Download and install your preferred anti-virus software, Microsoft Security Essentials is recommended, in conjunction with AVG Link Scanner.
5 Ensure Windows Firewall or your preferred choice is up and running.
6 Create a Restore Point.
a. Open Control Panel and change the view to Small Icons.

b. Click on System

c. Click on System Protection

d. Click on Create, enter a suitable name and follow the on screen instructions.
7 The Windows Registry will be changed later in the process, and any mistake in navigating the Windows registry and entering something wrong will cause some serious damage. Therefore creating a copy of the Register is an essential precaution.
a. First start the Registry Editor by pressing the Windows Key + R and then enter regedit in the box

b. Click on OK

c. Click on the file drop down menu, enter a suitable file name and location

d. Click Save
8 Load BM Technic Software DVD and double click Start-Installer.exe
Install the software step by step from Step 1 to Step 4, note NCS Expert will not install on 64 bit Windows.
9 It is impossible to install VMware through the installer as it attempts to down load it from the (now defunct) BM Techic web site.
10 Go to https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/free#desktop_end_user_computing/vmware_player/6_0|PLAYER-602| product_downloads and down load VMware Player for Windows 32-bit and 64-bit. Install but uncheck ‘Check for product updates on startup’ also uncheck ‘Help improve VMware Player’, allow shortcuts.
11 The Registry will need editing
a. Press Windows key + R and the run dialogue window will open.
Type in regedit and press enter
In the window that opens navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SOFTWARE
BMTechnic
v1
b. Right-click on v1 and select New --> key and in the little new box type in VMP and hit enter.
c. Left click to highlight the new key then right-click and select New --> DWORD(32 bit) Value and type in Installed and press enter.
d. Double click on that entry and in the box that opens up change the value from 0 to 1 then click OK. The result should look like this

12 Restart the computer
13 Reload BM Technic Software DVD and double click Start-Installer.exe, note Step 5 VMware player now says ‘Installed’.
14 Open Network Settings in Control Panel

15 Click VMware Network Adapter VMnet1

16 Click Properties

17 Highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 and then click Properties

18 Click Advanced and highlight the IP address

19 Click Edit and change the IP Address to 192.168.68.1

20 The installer now should acknowledge that VMWare is installed and allow you to select install DIS, and DIS/GT1
21 Install Step 6, SSS Progman and Step 7 DIS/GT1
22 This should be the end result

23 Double Click BM Technic Launch Pad on the Desktop

Windows 7 SP1 64 bit

The above ‘How To’ is based on a clean windows installation using Windows 7 SP1 32 bit. If however you are using Windows 7 SP1 64 bit please replace section 11 with the following.

a. Press Windows key + R and the run dialogue window will open.
Type in regedit and press enter
In the window that opens navigate to

BMTechnic
v1
Right-click on v1 and select New --> key and in the little new box type in VMP and hit enter.
b. Left click to highlight the new key then right-click and select New --> DWORD(32 bit) Value and type in Installed and press enter.

Spent most of the afternoon trying to get this up and running with limited success, I thought I had cracked it but now not sure. I'll try again tomorrow
