Installation Hardtop

Hello i have two question regarding installing a hardtop .

Are there different kinds of Z4 hardtops , or all they all the same whatever the age of the Z4?

When i am going to install the hardtop on my Z4 is the sealingrubber between the hardtop and the car going to damage the paint slightly ?

Greetings Ed

One one BMW hardtop, in the UK all cars are already prepared for hardtops not sure where you are. Shouldnt cause any damage to paint though.

The seal has to be 100% clean as does the paint and I add a good layer of wax. Any dirt will grind away.

The hardtop does not sit on the seal but on the side locating pins so there is no pressure.

Mine's unmarked after 2 Winters of use.

so.. all UK cars are pre-prepped for the hardtop?
Is that definately the case, as I know someone local to me who's got one going, in the same colour as mine, and I'm already very interested, but was researching if I needed to do anything!

Hello guys, does anyone have any ideas where i could get a good second hand hardtop from ?

Ive recently bought my Z4 in silver and im looking for a hardtop.

Cheers Dean

they come up on ebay fairly regularly, but the silver ones seem to go for the highest price for some reason....i've watched prices for two years on and off and seen them creep into four figures sometimes....

well i suppose i could try a different coloured one !!! just kidding.Ill keep an eye out although ive not seen any for a while. If anyone knows of one for sale i'd be happy for someone to email me. Cheers Dean

well its worth considering buying an unpopular colour and having it resprayed - £200 ought to do it....the rarer colours tend to go for around the £600-700 mark in my experience. Don't be shy about doing it - its not a tip-top BMW-made item, they were churned out by Webasto, originator of the - gulp - aftermarket sunroof

Warm night, partner in the passenger seat (being PC here....!) roof down, cruising through the country lanes with the wind in our hair - oops sorry you can't do that!
