Inspection Two or Oil Service

I sent my Z4 for an Inspection Two, two years ago at my local independent garage. While last year I got a family friend to change the oil.

I'm unsure this year whether to send the car back to the garage for another Inspection Two so the various filters and plugs can be changed or just getting my friend to do the work.

Conscious that the car is 13 years old is there still value in a service stamp when there is a bunch of receipts from Europarts to show what I've done.
 
Personally service stamps reflect a careful owner and a well looked after car. I would have thought a service 1 is next in schedule if you take the oil service as the oil change you had done last year. At £170 approx from an independent specialist seems cheap and beneficial.
 
Depends if it's a lifer or you're intending to flog it on at some point.
I started doing all my own servicing on my E36 Coupe and E46 M3 once they'd reached 150k+ miles.
Ergo, if you're competent enough to do oil changes, plugs, filters and other checks etc then why not DIY and keep a record?
 
Like yours mine is now 13 years old. I bought mine 4 years ago with full service history, since I've owned it I've done far more to it than was done in the first 9 years following the service schedule . I've changed oil and filters annually regardless of mileage, plugs , ignition coils, discs pads handbrake shoes, disa upgrade etc etc and saved all receipts.
The only thing I've let my mot guy do twice in the 4 years is brake and coolant fluid to keep him happy and stamp the book.

Theyre 13 years old and worth half of Bugger all unlikely to affect residuals at this stage in the cars life unless it's an ///M .
I'd do it yourself save the receipts and know it's done right with quality parts.

I think that csm180 is right in that it gives any future buyers more confidence is been looked after, but given the age (and thus the cars value) I'm not sure that its worth it...I'm in simlar position and either do it myself or get a local trusted garage do it. Im sure come sale time buyers would prefer a main dealer service but I cant imagine it will affect the price enough to justify the cost.
 
Depends on the cars value I would say. Providing it's been covered with receipts in leiu of a service stamp then I don't see a problem. Although undoubtedly it would put some potential buyers off.
 
If it only had an inspection 2 2 years ago then oil should only be required.

Does depend on mileage though, as you could be due an inspection 1.
 
Its been said a number of times that if you keep receipts its probably better than a garage doing (or not doing) the work. As an example When I got my Zed two years ago it came with main dealer stamps for all services. As someone who wouldnt trust a garage to even check their tyre pressures I set about giving the car a full service. The first thing I noticed was that the air filter was filthy and it was evident it hadnt been changed in its entire life - it was date stamped 2005. Ask me again whether I would prefer maintenance from a fasidious forum member or a garage stamp in the book.
 
Isn't Inspection I just a load of visual checks over and above oil and filter changes. Unless something is actually wrong it's no better than an oil service in terms of effect on the car.

Mike, I couldn't agree more, a fastidious compident owner is more likely to go the extra mile to keep the car in tip top condition. As long as the owner keeps all the receipts and documents the history. I would much prefer that to some back street garage doing half a job!! :D

Agreed although I use bmw for all inspections and big jobs
But def as a fully hands on owner
Im fussy as to keeping all parts in tip top
Ms have space in service book to say what's extras you've done ie oils etc
Not sure if other Zs have?
Ie all new brakes lines fluids etc this weekend
Do myself
Plus diff and box oils once get a ramp
All outside of service intervals

Ps oil oil inps1 oil oil insp2
10/14k between each recommend
But depends on driving style as 200 gallons between services
